Well now, My post here and you reading it can classify us both as terrorists and a danger to the nation. That is what this new threat is all about. Any common sense thinking now puts one at risk and subject to jail and fines, along with ruined reputations even if not guilty of anything. How would the next elected president handle this situation! Anyway if I disappear you'll know what happened.

Clerical Amendment- The table of contents in section 1(b) of such Act is amended by inserting at the end of the items relating to title VIII the following:
It states in the first subsection that in general the efforts to defeat thought crime shall not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights and civil liberties of the United States citizens and lawful permanent residents. How does this protect constitutional rights if they use vague language such as in general that prefaces the statement? This means that the Department of Homeland Security does not have to abide by the Constitution in their attempts to prevent so called homegrown terrorism.
This bill is completely insane. It literally allows the government to define any and all crimes including thought crime as violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism. Obviously, this legislation is unconstitutional on a number of levels and it is clear that all 404 representatives who voted in favor of this bill are traitors and should be removed from office immediately. The treason spans both political parties and it shows us all that there is no difference between them. The bill will go on to the Senate and will likely be passed and signed into the law by George W. Bush. Considering that draconian legislation like the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act have already been passed, there seems little question that this one will get passed as well. Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act 2007

The U.S. House of Representatives has quietly passed the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism (read Thought Crime) Prevention Act of 2007. The bill, passed on October 23 by a landslide vote of 404 to 6, has been referred to the Senate where it awaits scrutiny from the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Interestingly, of the fifteen sponsors for this bill, eleven of them are Democrats.
The bill's language hides its true intent
The bill's vague and open-ended language hides its true intent as to what "violent radicalization" and "homegrown terrorism" are? It will be whatever the administration says they are. Violent radicalization is defined as "adopting or promoting an extremist belief system (to facilitate) ideologically based violence to advance political, religious or social change."
Homegrown terrorism is used to mean "the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily with the United States or any (US) possession to intimidate or coerce the (US) government, the civilian population....or any segment thereof (to further) political or social objectives."
Along with other repressive laws enacted after 9/11, the new law may be used against any individual or group with unpopular views - those that differ from established state policies. Prosecutors henceforth will be able to target believers in Islam, anti-war protesters, web editors, internet bloggers and radio and TV show hosts and commentators with views the bill calls "terrorist-related propaganda."
Unfortunately this bill is likely to pass and be signed into law as it purports to be part of the response to 9/11 and the global war on terror. If this legislation becomes law, which is virtually certain, any dissenting anti-government action or opinion may henceforth be called "violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism" with stiff penalties for anyone convicted.
This bill now joins the ranks of other repressive post-9/11 laws like Patriot I and II, Military Commissions, Protect America Acts and Presidential Executive Orders pursuant to which the government has engaged in massive surveillance of its own citizens, as well as detentions, extraordinary renditions and torture.
Surprisingly, there is a criminal silence in the mainstream media about the bill.

Chilling effect on both free speech and thought
The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act will have a substantial chilling effect on both free speech and free thought. At base, Jane Harman's proposal seems to be a direct attack on free speech. No where is this more clear than in the third introductory paragraph (the "where as" section) that provides the context for the action desired. Specifically, this legislation aims at the unregulated nature of the Internet:
"The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens."
One of the most useful tools for political campaigns today is the use of the internet. Certainly we can see how this has been used over the last few months as Congressmen Paul, as well as other candidates, has used the internet to spread their messages and appeal to new voters.
With this piece of legislation in congress, people will no longer be able to use the internet in a peaceful manner. All activity will certainly be logged, and every letter typed will be scrutinized by the state.
On November 6, CSPAN aired a hearing of the Homeland Security Subcommittee's "Terrorism and the Internet" which stated purpose was to attempt to identify and focus on the use of the internet by "home grown terrorist recruiters." The hearing was chaired by California democrat Jane Harman, sponsor of the infamous "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007" and ranking Republican, Rep. Dave Reichert.

Bizarre Bill Introduced in Congress: The Violent Radicalization Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007
Civil liberties activists have criticized the bill, some comparing the Commission it would establish to the McCarthy Commission that investigated Americans for possible associations with Communist groups, casting suspicion on law-abiding citizens and ruining their reputations. The Commission would be empowered to "hold hearings and sit and act at such times and places, take such testimony, receive such evidence, and administer such oaths as the Commission considers advisable to carry out its duties."Odette Wilkens, the executive director of the Equal Justice Alliance, a constitutional watchdog group, compared the legislation to the McCarthy Commission and to the FBI's Counter Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO), which infiltrated, undermined and spied on civil rights and antiwar groups during the 1950s and 60s."The commission would have very broad powers. It could investigate anyone. It would create a public perception that whoever is being investigated by the Commission must be involved in subversive or illegal activities. It would give the appearance that whoever they are investigating is potentially a traitor or disloyal or a terrorist, even if all they were doing was advocating lawful views," Wilkens said.

Government's Pesticide Experiment Program
The California Department of Food and Agriculture's own doctor acknowledges, in court documents, that aerial application of this chemical has not been tested. Let me repeat this so you understand, chemicals are being sprayed on young children, nursing mother's, people with asthma, lung problems, heart problems, the elderly, the disabled, the homeless and the chemically sensitive - and this chemical formulation has NEVER been tested on even a piece of dirt, let alone, humans. The newly designed Faroes Statement, the consensus of over 200 scientists, calls for a precautionary approach with respect to exposure of fetuses and children to environmental toxins. The consensus is that exposure of fetuses or children to chemicals can cause increased susceptibility to disease and disability later in life. In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has specific directives and codes that state that they should not experiment with pesticides on pregnant women, or infants. It is a fact, since this aerial pesticide has not been proven to control the moth's mating habits and has not been proven safe to animals or humans, that this is an experiment.
In Monterey, approximately 100,000 residents were exposed to untested chemicals to control the mating habits of less than 750 moths. In Santa Cruz County, over 100,000 residents will be exposed between 11/06/07 – 11/09/07 to untested chemicals to control the mating habits of less than 9,000 moths. This is not a one time application, but will continue monthly beginning again in February, for nine months, and then repeated for up to a total of three years. Again, this program designed to eradicate the moth at best will only control the moth's mating habits; it will not eliminate the moth. At worst, the program will be ineffective, cost tax payers millions of dollars, and cause permanent disability to residents and their pets. All this harm is over a little moth that has yet to cause even $1 of damage in California

Call your local senator and congressional representative. And I encourage you to call these California Senators. Federal offices will say that this is a state matter. You tell them that this LBAM eradication plan is funded by the USDA and that this is certainly a federal problem.

However, they have been ardent supporters of pheromone use, stating that the pheromone is safe because the EPA says it is better than traditional pesticides. Note that we were also told that they have not done ANY independent research into the toxic side effects of pheromones and do not have the resources to have their own scientists do any testing. Basically they are taking the EPA and USDA's word that it is safe, even though there are no tests available to show that it is safe or effective.

This is the festival of Thor, of Baldur and of Prometheus. Again Buddha by a miracle escapes from the tyrant of Madura, Zoroaster foils the King, Bacchus laughs at the rage of Cadmus,and Chrishna eludes the tyrant.
This is the festival of the sun-god, and as such let its observance be universal. This is the great day of the first religion, the mother of all religions—the worship of the sun. Sun worship is not only the first, but the most natural and most reasonable of all. And not only the most natural and the most reasonable, but by far the most poetic, the most beautiful. # 120 Daily Deadly Diet Continues:What To Do!

No more though, as these two favorites have started using the NEW FAT, called "INTERESTERIFIED OILS". Hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated or trans fat listed in the ingredient list, and off I go. Am driving the family nuts, with my reading the ingredient lists of all food products. Come back and list foods you find with the word interesterified listed.
Another product that I was interested in trying was "All Day Energy Greens" made by IVL, in Camp Verde,AZ 86322. Ingredient list was fantastic, with the exception of the unwanted soy product. So did not order. Two months later, comes a new brochure, same company, showing " New & Improved Soy Free Formula". Ah, I say, check it out. So what do I find, The same product, dropped six wanted ingredients along with the unwanted soy stuff, going from 37 listed ingredients, down to 28. Same price, almost the same product, but am no longer interested in buying without the six wanted ingredients in it. Oh well, maybe next time the product will be what I wanted to try.

Interesterified fat - what should consumers do?
Scientists working for the food industry keep coming up with strange, weird and terrifying stuffs. As consumers, we need to keep abreast of these developments and watch out for the dangers. Otherwise, just stick to traditional foods that humans have been eating for thousands of years, and we will be all ok. In the case of oils and fats, just stick to:saturated fats like lard, butter, ghee, beef tallow, goose fat…. coconut oil and palm
oil, monounsaturated fats like olive, sesame, and peanut oils.
Note also that:
Polyunsatured oils like corn, soybean, etc had not been traditionally used for cooking. Most were introduced only during the last century.
Canola, a monounsaturated fat widely touted as being the “healthiest oil” is another modern scientific invention, produced through genetic manipulation.

One product to be careful about is peanut butter, some of which are now made with fully hydrogenated oils. These could well be interesterified fat. If you want a healthy peanut butter, look for those that contain just one or two ingredients, either only peanuts, or peanuts and salt.

# 119 The Daily Deadly Diet Continues: Guess who the victim's are!

So now, we have SuperBugs, and GMO SuperFoods.
We have newspaper headlines, of reduced sperm counts in males due to eating soy products. Increasing reports of rare diseases popping up, females reaching full breast maturity and menses, at ages nine and ten years of age! Great amounts of money for wars and nonsense at all levels of government! Farm subsidies for big corporations, get the big bucks, while the local farmer gets shafted. Pharmaceutical companies paying the FDA budget! Insane acts by seemingly ordinary people! The stories go on and on. Where is this going you ask? Folks as wild as it may seem, there is a tie-in, with all, of what is being said here. Slowly but surely, we are being mutated and genetically altered into what I’ve called FrankenHumans. Now, go ahead, and laugh, all you want. Done? The next step is to apply the same commonsense thinking I’ve also written about in my blogs. So what is the commonsense denominator with all the people in this picture! Drinking water, air, the food supply, and antibiotics. The most draconian is the food supply. Next would be antibiotics. So think what you will, but do give it all some deep thought. Numerous people and web site are ridiculing, any, that question the issues raised here. It’s no laughing matter, when your family is suffering from any of these raised issues. Yes, yes, I know this sounds like so many conspiracy things, floating around. Paranoid rantings on a blog here! Maybe, but just go back to earlier posts, and follow the trail of what was said. Than decide for yourself what is the truth of what has been said.

Suddenly the little-known germ with the cumbersome name, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is getting lots of attention. People in health care settings, like hospitals and nursing homes, are most at risk for MRSA infections. Doctors and nurses who treat staph-infected patients and then don't carefully wash up can spread the germ to other patients. Germ-contaminated medical devices used on people having dialysis or medical procedures also can spread staph. Older patients and blacks are most at risk, according to the recent report by government researchers. MRSA, pronounced Muhr-suh, has been around for decades and in recent years has spread to schools, prisons and crowded public housing projects. Even healthy people can carry it on their skin. It may look like a pimple or spider bite that doesn't heal, but it can turn deadly if it enters the bloodstream or morphs into a flesh-eating wound. Yet, many infection control experts oppose required testing for it in hospitals. Many note that MRSA is just one of dozens of risky germs that often infect people in hospitals - particularly those with weakened immune systems or open wounds.

But Lisa McGiffert doesn't buy it. The director of the Consumers Union's campaign to stop hospital infections calls that "an argument of distraction." "Certainly there are other superbugs and they should be tackling those, too," said McGiffert. "To eradicate hospital-acquired infections is going to take a comprehensive effort" that should include testing hospital patients, she said. About 1.7 million Americans each year develop infections from various germs while hospitalized and almost 100,000 of them die, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
MRSA accounts for only about 10 percent of these infections. Other worrisome bugs include C-difficile (an intestinal infection), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (linked with intestinal, skin and blood infections), and drug-resistant Acinetobacter (which can cause pneumonia, skin and blood infections); none of them accounts for more than 10 percent of hospital infections. MRSA infections have hogged attention, partly because they're on the rise. And, acknowledges the CDC's Dr. John Jernigan, "MRSA likely accounts for a disproportionate amount of illness and death" because of its strength and resistance to mainline antibiotics.

This is because at least seven out of every 10 items have been genetically modified! Many of you probably try to avoid genetically modified foods, but very few know what they really are, since there are no labeling requirements identifying GMO ingredients. To get an idea of how widespread these ingredients are, I recommend taking a look at The GMO Food Guide I published a couple of months ago. What Can You Do?
Along with using the GMO Food Guide and avoiding the products mentioned above, there’s other tricks you that can use to figure out if something is genetically modified in your fresh produce aisles:
Examine produce stickers on the fruits and vegetables you buy. The PLU code for conventionally grown fruit consists of four numbers; organically grown fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number nine; and GM fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number eight.
Buy organic produce as often as you can. By definition, food that is certified organic must be free from all GM organisms. Stay away from all processed foods, as most of these contain corn and soy ingredients.

Fortunately, as a consumer you do have power. You can choose not to be a victim of deception, and you can choose what you feed your family. Large portions of Europe have already succeeded in squashing GMO’s out of their food supply, forcing food manufacturers to use real ingredients in their European product lines. But here in the U.S. we’re still stuck with it to a very large degree. You can be the change you want to see in America, by educating yourself, spreading the word, and refusing to buy GMO products. There is another very good reason for resisting GMO in addition to health concerns and is this: You cannot patent a naturally occuring organism. Anyone, for instance can grow and sell tomatoes but if someone creates a special genetically modified tomato, they own the right to it. Only they can sell it for whatever they can get. If this special tomato crowds out all the natural varieties then there is only one place to go for your tomatoes and then watch the price rise! It is easy to see why such a scenario is attractive to the big food corporations. If they play their cards right they can make the kind of obscene profits the drug companies make. Control and profits is what this is all about, not cheap food. Quite the reverse. The big corporations already have enough control over our lives, don't let them control your food supply. Here is the UK we resisted the introduction of GMO foods but we wouldn't buy them, the supermarkets had to stop selling them and the government had to stop trying to force them down our throats. You in the US must do the same not only for your helath but for your freedom to choose what to eat.

When I read this I wondered if GMO was the most serious issue to our health/environment. "Under the Bush new Police State, freedom of speech and assembly have been replaced with arrest and detention. The new presidential signing statements , give the govt. the freedom to declare anyone an enemy combatant or terrorist and intimidate and arrest anyone who protests anything this government is doing, without due process of law (HABEAS CORPUS). It's happening all over the country and will only get worse when Bush declares Martial Law and opens the detention camps to us citizen who protest in any way, the fascist dictatorship that has beCOME theocratic America. The ACLU has it's work cut out for itself, but it will be like shoveling coal against the tide.
I'm no expert, but in the UK we have fought off this sickness called GMO as far as possible.It keeps comiong bacK though. Even organic foods can't be certified below(I think) 0.9% contamination by GMO due to leaching across plant boundaries. Modified starch is in a lot of stuff-and recently the broader issue has been raised again for consideration.'They' are persistent...so should opponents be the same. Gov'ts have been lax over asbestos,nuclear waste from tests,flouride in water ( THE most precious commodity on the 'good' earth') and smoking risks for decades.

The only good thing is we don't have 1000's killed every day as in WW1 - but I doubt the dead/ injured from then would have fought for our current system- had they known what the legacy would be.

Besides the GMO attacks on farmers and consumers, they are also looking at the possibility of forced Animal Identification and human identification. NAIS should alarm everyone. If USDA is allowed to continue with NAIS, small/private farmers, homesteaders, hobbyists will drop their animals like hot potatoes. Some have already, sadly, preferring to give up their animals rather than fight.

All of these issues are connected. It begs a much larger social question. Can we form communities around our farmers to protect them and our food sources?
Is cooperative intentional community the direction we need to move? While I believe all the suggestions are a great start, I don't think we can stop there. Our way of living and thinking must change and it must change to include "the other" The other's point of view out of compassion. In community with and for each other. Farmers need our help or buying local/organic won't be an option. A final thought: "Even evil must serve the good. It takes a stand against the working of the divine and yet it cannot do otherwise than intensify, through resistance, the effectiveness of the good".

Having dealt with a mysterious, undiagnosable but disabling "autoimmune disorder" over the last year and a half, I do wonder how much of my illness was caused by GMO's and other environmental toxins. It most likely messed with my DNA, causing my own cells to attack each other....causing my connective tissue (what makes up all our organs!) to harden. The basic MO of all auto-immunity is in the anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) found easily in a routine blood lab, if you request it. It's our body developing an attack organism flowing in our blood targeted toward the nucleus of our own otherwise "healthy" cells. In coming years, will research point to GMO's being the culprit behind this nuclear shift in our bodies?

Since going pure organic and veggie juicing heavily (as well as going gluten-free, changing cook-ware, doing a heavy metal detox, supplements, etc) I have seen my symptoms lift, and better yet, my bloodwork has returned with no evidence of auto-immunity whatsoever. My mainstream docs had predicted I'd be dead in 2-5 years. No--I'd only be dying if I was still eating the usual mainstream American diet. I wonder what they're eating?

While reading articles on smoking and the health crisis smoking
presented, I see many comparasions. For too many years our great protector, "The Government," never so much as opened it's mouth for a number of years. Yet people were loosing their health, as well as life itself, and the government remained silent. So I guess even now governmental silence is for the greater good, which is to say we are expendable. We the people are the lab rats, and Con-Agra, Tyson, and the rest laugh all the way to the bank.

Deception is something that works very well, and we as citizens do not have a voice. These giant corporations create commercials to tell us we are safe, and GMOs present no true harm, while at the same time people are becoming victims of never before seen illnesses, or illnesses without an apparent cause. Such as lung cancer, and heart disease, caused by smoking, and the Tobacco Industry continued to say there was no direct cause that could be connected to any illness and smoking, that could be found, and proven. Are we not faced with the same set of circumstances? Are we not being told the exact same LIE by those who advocate GMOs? Tyson is now telling us via packaging labels their chickens are natural, no hormones, antibiotics, or steroids. Notice there is no GMO disclaimer. Something smells here.

Then there is the fight to keep foods from being labeled as such. Never mind many of our so called trading partners refuse to do business with companies who use GMO foods. Even starving Africa refuses these "Franken Foods."

Um, I guess the point is that eating gm foods could cause one to become gm too. This is a really terrible consequence of the gmo game that's being played out on "we the victims" here in the U$A and in other countries where the Monsantos of the world hold sway over the governments that are corruptible like ours is. We already have to contend with vaccinations, chemtrails, polluted air, numerous toxic food additives, and our drinking water that's contaminated intentionally with flouride and chlorine (THM's). GMO's add a huge unknown dimension, full of nasty surprises, for us all and our progeny. It seems more and more that population reduction is in full swing.

Huh? What's this?
First, let me tell you how I remember the spelling of this word - combine together “interest” and “terrified” but spell “terrified” with only one “r”. Actually, it is made up of the words “inter” and the chemical term “esterified”, meaning “formed into ester”.
Basically, it is an attempt by food scientists to produce oils with “no trans fats”.
What they do is hydrogenate the oils fully. The oils become fully saturated and there are no trans fats left. But fully hydrogenated oil is hard and inedible. So the smart aleck scientists mix it with liquid oils and put it through other chemical processes to create a semi-solid grease like margarine and vegetable shortening. Ever wonder what our former Secretary of Defense did before he got into politics? Well years ago, he was the fearless leader of a company called GD Searle Corp. that developed a "miracle sweetener" called aspartame. (Yes, the very same stuff contained in those little blue packets.)
For years, this company tried in vain to get aspartame approved. But no one wanted to go near the stuff! The FDA refused to approve it for 16 years. But wait, it gets worse...
In the early '80s, "Rummy the Magnificent" moved into the political arena. And one of the first moves he made was to appoint a new FDA commissioner. And guess what he did? In 1981, the new appointee approved aspartame for the good old boys back at GD Searle...despite the clinically proven dangers.
Before long, aspartame was everywhere, from soda to salad dressing!
Now let's look at what it's "contributed" to America's health...

For starters, medical authorities estimate that aspartame has brought more complaints to the FDA than any other additive. In fact, it's responsible for as many as 75 percent of such complaints to that agency. And, after receiving some 10,000 consumer complaints, the FDA compiled a list of 92 symptoms linked to aspartame -- including death.
Headaches, memory loss, seizures, vision loss, coma, and cancer. It also appears to worsen or mimic the symptoms of such conditions as fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer's, chronic fatigue, and depression...

SUGAR: A spoonful once in a while is fine, but in time, too much sugar can lead to diabetes, which will lead to heart disease, renal disease, peripheral vascular disease, diabetic retinitis (blindness), diabetic peripheral neuropathy and the list goes on and on. (Even so, next to aspartame, sugar looks almost attractive!)
SUCRALOSE: A very dangerous new chemical -- because in order to make sucralose, chlorine is added to sugar! Ever spilled chlorine bleach on your skin? Yet, despite these findings, people still have it in for the delicious dogs. Although the Associated Press reported the findings, it still warned “it doesn’t mean artery-clogging hot dogs are healthy.”
The point I’m trying to make is that it steams me to no end when the media makes sweeping pronouncements about nutrition, usually gleaned by so-called experts like the EPA or the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The truth is, good health is a matter of common sense and having a healthy dose of cynicism about what the “authorities” have to say about what’s good for you--and what’s not.

“HIGH FAT DIETS CAUSE BREAST CANCER.” Fat phobia may be the height of fashion, but it’s JUNK MEDICINE. Researchers studied 88,795 women over the course of 14 years, and what did they find? Not one sign that high-fat diets promote breast cancer. And not one hint that low-fat diets protect you.
“DDT CAUSES CANCER.” Says WHO? Check the record. Back in the 1970s, the Environmental Protection Agency examiner summed up 9,000 pages of research by flatly declaring, “DDT is not a carcinogenic hazard to man.” He also emphasized that it doesn’t harm fish, birds or other wildlife. Despite this open-and-shut case, his boss, EPA head William Ruckleshaus went ahead and banned DDT. Aides later said he never read even one page of the studies. He had helped to hatch the DDT scare and couldn’t bring himself to admit he was wrong. The worldwide witch-hunt against DDT hasn’t saved one peregrine falcon. But it has unquestionably murdered tens of millions of human children in tropical nations, who continue to die from malaria, Dengue fever, yellow fever and other mosquito-borne plagues.

“Milk that’s not pasteurized is a health hazard”
Really? Let’s look at how this myth was spun and how it got poured down the throats of the American public:
If raw milk is so bad for us, how did the human race ever survive before pasteurization? After all, we’ve been milking cows and drinking down the creamy, nutrient-rich results for thousands of years--yet Louis Pasteur’s process (which was originally designed to prevent beer spoilage, mind you) has only been in widespread use for a little more than a century. So what gives?
The answer, of course, is that non-pasteurizedmilk isn’t hazardous at all. It’s just a lot tougher to regulate and make money from it.
Think about it: By legislating against the sale or distribution of raw milk, states force farmers to sell their milk (at a fraction of market value, by the way) to the big milk processors. This creates a “paper trail” on the milk, which can then be used as the basis for collecting tax revenue from those processors--and likely the farmers, too.
And how else could they get away with this kind of shameless money-grubbing except under the guise of a public health concern? It’s just one more example of how your healthy, natural dietary options are being sold down the river by a bunch of dollar-crazed bureaucrat shakedown artists.
The good news is that raw milk is healthierand better for you than pasteurized milk in stores. And it tastes better, too.

I went to the site and viewed the movie about GMO & GMF. What I saw, falls into a category of TOTAL INSANITY. What you see is a wake up call readers. The outcome presented in the video, if taken to the extreme is saying: Your children and pets, have eaten our GMO products, and according to the patent laws, and detection of "our patented products" through blood tests, in your children and pets, they are now "our property, unless you pay us a royalty".
NOW THAT IS WILD AND TOTAL INSANITY, SANCTIONED BY PATENT LAW !

Corporate Greed, Intellectual Property Laws and the Destruction of Human Civilization

Did you know that if you have children you are an international criminal? You have violated intellectual property laws by infringing on the copyrights of companies that have been granted patents on the human genome. You have replicated that gene sequence by having children without the permission of the owners of those gene sequences. As bizarre as it sounds, it's absolutely true: having children is a violation of patent law.

This has come about because those at the U.S. Patent Office seem to have lost their collective minds. They have allowed companies and individuals to gain ownership of intellectual property that should never have been granted to a private organization or individual. Some things belong to nature -- like the gene sequence of a human being. Man didn't create it. There's no Einstein who created the human gene sequence, put together some DNA and made human beings. People are not an invention; they are a creation.

Intellectual property, and patents in particular, are intended to cover inventions; things that we were the first to create, not something we stumbled across because we have the right equipment to detect them in the natural world. Clearly, genes are already in existence. We did not invent them; nature did. And yet, people and organizations have been granted patents on seeds from nature.


No patents on seeds
Those of you familiar with the subject know I'm talking about basmati rice, a type of rice native to India. It has been harvested for centuries throughout India and Southeast Asia. But a few years ago, a U.S. company filed for a patent on basmati rice and the U.S. Patent Office said, "Sure enough, you own it." That company then proceeded to try to shut down the harvesting and farming of basmati rice in India. They said, in effect, "All you farmers out there? You owe us a royalty now. We own the patent on this seed." Luckily, the Indian government intervened and thwarted the patent by having the rice listed under the European Commission's regulations that protect regional foods.

But the fact that the patent was issued at all illustrates how intellectual property has spiraled out of control in the United States and other countries. If you wonder why companies are granted patents for the human gene sequence or for seeds, here's the reason: It's because corporations are in charge, and they run governments. Who do you think runs the Food and Drug Administration? It's the drug companies. Who do you think runs the U.S. Department of Agriculture? It's the farming, beef and the dairy industries.

Take a look at every single decision the USDA, the FDA, and various government departments have made: they benefit big business. It's all about not just protecting business, but helping big business become more profitable.


The arrogance of modern man
You know what it tells me when humanity tries to take credit and ownership of things from nature? That mankind thinks it's smarter than nature; that men think they are gods who own nature and feel they can exploit nature for any purpose they desire. This is the attitude of a majority of the human population today, and certainly it is the attitude of those who are in power, like those who run big corporations and governments. They say, "Nature is there for us to exploit." This is reflected in the intellectual property laws today, which say, in effect, that we own nature and that anything we happen to stumble across is from that point forward our "property."

It is this attitude that allows people to go out and plunder the planet; strip the planet of its minerals, raw materials and clean water, then dump polluted water back in to the rivers, streams and oceans; to use clean air and return only toxic waste, jet fuel exhaust, car exhaust and coal plant exhaust into the atmosphere. Corporations say, "This piece of paper from the U.S. Patent Office says I own this gene sequence, this seed, this piece of land." It's amazing.

Native Americans had it right when they laughed at the white man who said, "We'll trade you these beads for Manhattan Island." The Native Americans thought, "Nobody owns Manhattan Island, nobody owns the land, nobody owns the planet. If you want to give us these beads in order to think you own a piece of land, go for it." They didn't know the white man was serious. White man said, "Okay, now we're going to build a fence and defend ourselves against you all the way to the other coast. Then we're going to set up these tiny reservations and put you on them, and allow you to call them your homeland."

We are guests on this planet
In my view, we don't own anything on this planet. We are guests here; we are lucky to be here, to have a planet that has all of this water and air, all of this wonderful green life all around us; wherever you turn, there is life on this planet. In the oceans, on the mountains, across the plains, in the jungles and even in places where you wouldn't think you would find life, like in the frozen tundra of the north and at the bottom of the oceans, where volcanic vents are spewing boiling water.

We have a duty to take care of this planet. We have a duty not to own it or think it's our intellectual property, but rather to respect it and honor it. Right now, we take that for granted. We cut down trees and use them as resources. We dig up coal and burn it. We take water out of the environment, pollute it, then dump it back into the environment. And yet we don't pay Mother Nature for any of this. If we take all these resources from the planet, we should give it something in return. We should replace and replenish these resources. At the very least, we should offer thanks for it.

Traditional herbalists -- whether they're Native American, Aborigine, Australian, South American, Incan, Mayan or from any other culture -- would ask plants for permission when they harvested them from the natural environment. They would thank the plant when they took its leaves, roots, or flowers, or rhizomes. Today our corporations say, "We own the planet, and we'll take what we want. We'll punish anybody else who tries to grow this plant because we own its intellectual property." There is a big difference between asking permission from nature and saying, "We own nature and we do with it what we want." But that is the attitude prevalent today.

Nature will find balance
Our modern world -- our so-called technologically advanced world -- is so advanced that we think we own the trees, rivers, streams, oceans, the lands, the seeds and the gene sequences. But we're in for a big surprise here, because Mother Nature has a way of reminding people they are not in control, a way of correcting the imbalances. We've been exploiting Mother Nature in a systematic, aggressive way for a couple of hundred years. We've already had a huge, destructive, negative impact on the planet in this short time.

The planet is going to rebalance itself one way or another. We are the guests here, and if we don't remember that, Mother Nature will remind us of it. It will most likely happen in a gentle, nudging way -- like global climate change, infectious diseases, global pandemics and food supply shortages. Maybe there will be other little reminders, like global water shortages, typhoons, earthquakes and changes in weather patterns that affect the food supply. It will likely be these types of things that kill a lot of human beings. Not only is this is going to keep happening, but I think it's going to accelerate. We as human beings are creating the conditions that will cause these devastating events.

When we treat animals inhumanely -- when we corral them together in cramped pens and slaughter them for food, when we feed cattle the ground up remains of dead animals and chicken feces -- which is a USDA-approved practice -- we create an environment that is ripe for infectious disease, mutation and infection. If you think the flu of 1918 was bad, wait until you see the next pandemic that comes along. And when a pandemic gets out of control, when a virus becomes a global infectious agent, there's not much you can do about it. All the intellectual property in the world can't save you from an infectious disease.

Even the most advanced technology in the world cannot overcome the repercussions of the disasters we have set into motion on this planet from being the egotistical, aggressive version of humanity that we have become. I think it all comes back to intellectual property, because it and the laws surrounding it demonstrate a lack of humility and honor for Mother Nature and our natural world. They demonstrate the arrogance of mankind, our non-sustainable business community and our war mongering nations. This arrogance is going to come back to bite us in a big way.

Corporations are destroying our future
When you have companies that violate the laws of nature in the name of corporate profits, you are flirting with true disaster. A good example of this is Monsanto, which developed the terminator seed -- one which will not produce viable seeds after the first generation, thus forcing farmers around the world to buy seed from Monsanto year after year. This sets up a situation where the farmers of the world have only a single season of seed. If something goes wrong in just one production sequence, we have global famine on your hands -- all because they are willing to protect intellectual property for corporate profit. They are willing to distort nature to the point of causing plants to terminate their own seeds, just to make a buck. That is in such gross violation of the very laws of nature, it appalls me that any human being even thought of it. It is an invitation for global disaster.

Who on Earth would actually think of such a concept? To say, "Let's take something from nature that has been reproducing for probably hundreds of thousands of years, and modify it so it terminates its own offspring." To say, "The shareholders will love that one. I can't wait to introduce it to the market and force farmers and third world countries to buy this seed. Oh, what a big profit center that will be." Could any sane person actually do that? I think not: This idea could have only come from clinically insane corporate leaders who have completely lost touch with the planet they live on.

They did it because planting your own seed does not create the dependence on big corporations that are trying to rule this world. Self-replicating seeds which have been saved year after year, generation after generation, throughout every culture on our planet, offer sustainability, freedom and independence. Corporate America wants dependence -- it wants centralized control, scarcity, a monopoly; it creates this by forcing people to use things like terminator seeds and by claiming intellectual property over things like the gene sequence of a seed.

The situation has become so bizarre that if you were to go back in time and try to explain to somebody in the 1970s what is happening today, they wouldn't believe you. They'd ask, "What do you mean, someone said they own basmati rice? They have a plant that kills its own offspring? When you have children you're violating patent law? What are you talking about?" Their next question would likely be, "Have you gone mad?"

The answer is yes, we have gone mad. We have let this thing go so far out of control, and we have distorted nature to such an extent that we are creating our own destruction at every level -- physical, nutritional, emotional and definitely spiritual -- and we're doing it all in the name of corporate profits. Corporations need to keep money flowing into politicians' pockets, which in turn keeps the dollars flowing into the corporate coffers. Welcome to the modern world. It's crazier than you think, and it's getting crazier still.

If we don't start exploring ways to hand freedom back to farmers, communities and individual members of our society, to respect and be humbled by these natural resources that we freely take from Mother Nature, then Mother Nature will find a way to balance itself with or without humanity. The question for us is: Do we want to be here?

We must change or be destroyed by our own greed
On our current path, we will destroy our planet and all the nature around us. We will starve ourselves to death because we won't have a food supply, or even a predictable environment in which to grow food. We will poison ourselves with the toxic chemicals we are putting into our environment. We will destroy ourselves with the infectious agents we have created by facilitating the conditions under which they will flourish.

We are committing suicide as a species today. It is well past time to wake up, and the cost of staying ignorant is going to increase exponentially in the decades ahead. Eventually, people will have no choice but to wake up and do something about it. I hope that happens sooner rather than later because when it's too late, it's too late for all of us.

So, what can you do as an individual? You can engage in sustainable consumption, and support those products and companies that have a sustainable model for production. You can use cleaner energy sources. You can stand up against the ridiculous intellectual property climate that we have created today. There are a lot of things you can do, and collectively, if we all do smart things -- if we all wake up and learn to respect nature rather than try to own it -- we can make some positive changes. It's not too late yet. We still have a chance to turn this thing around and find a way to live in harmony with Mother Nature.

We have the communications technology to share this information and to wake people up. We have the scientific knowledge to realize what we need to be doing. We just need the political will to do it, and that power comes from the people. So, do your part: be a wise consumer. Don't support big businesses that are out to exploit nature. I recommend that you don't buy anything from Monsanto, Phillip Morris or Kraft Foods. Forget about Coke and Pepsi. Support small sustainable farms, organic farms, family farms, your local food co-ops and your local farmer's market.

Another, huge step you can take is to have your own garden. Grow heirloom plants, not hybrid plants, so you can save your seeds and use them generation after generation. The very act of saving and using seeds is, in its own way, a respectful ritual for nature. Who knows? Someday you may have to depend on those seeds, because all the other corporate seeds out there have terminated themselves and can't be counted on anymore. So keep saving them, and keep them alive. I know these are serious topics, but these are serious times. There are big issues at stake here. If we don't make the right choices on these issues, then we're going to pay the price for a very long time. We have to wake up and recognize what we're doing in this world, and we have to change our ways. Humanity is not currently on a sustainable path, and if we don't change, Mother Nature will eventually change things for us, causing a massive population drop across the planet.

Remember: if we don't figure out how to live with nature, nature will most certainly figure out how to live without us. We are not a necessary component for this planet. We are not in charge and, frankly, we don't own anything around here. We are just guests.

# 116 World's Deadliest Germs and Common Sense !

Surprise, the package you just found on you're doorstep, was part of a lost shipment. Who lost it and what was in it! Oh, only things considered to be some of the world's deadliest germs. Say what!
Just read in the Chicago Sun Times, 10/ 3 / 07, that there were some 100 accidents and missing shipments, involving anthrax, bird flu virus, monkeypox,and plague-causing bacteria, in 44 labs in 24 states. Not to worry though, no one died, and the public was never at risk! Seems that I hear lies of that nature every so often. Stated was that the lab workers had experienced bites, or scratches by infected animals, skin cuts, needle sticks,and more! There is no cure , if infected, for some of these illnesses! So who is steering the ship, and watching mishaps of this nature? The article states " No single federal agency has the mission to track the overall number of these labs in the United States ", says a report from the Government Accountability Office. During the past seven months of 2007, labs reported 36 accidents and LOST SHIPMENTS, nearly double the number reported during ALL of 2004. Not to worry though, the government is " watching you ", oop's, that was a slip, should be " watching out for you ", right! With all the monitoring taking place, like, illegal wire taps, listening-in on telephone calls, watching you're E-mails, and making you throw away you're tooth-paste at the airport, perhaps the " lost deadliest germs " shipments will show-up. Why worry about the worlds deadliest germs, when it is much easier to go after alternative medicine practitioners, and protect private security forces in Iraq from prosecution for wrong doings, while holding US troops responsible for lessor violations. Maybe I expect to much from people. Traits like common sense and integrity, are easily forced out by certain opportunities.

Am pleased to post this follow-up information on healing cancer naturally, with herbs. 16 oz of Vegetable glycerin.

4 Tablespoons of Citric acid which can be found in health food stores or from herb companies on-line.

5 gallons of distilled water

Purchase the whole herb (cut root and cut leaf) instead of the powdered herb if you can. The reason for this is two-fold. First, the powder absorbs more water leaving you with less liquid; second, the powder takes longer and is harder to strain. I purchase most of my dried herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs. Their herbs are processed and handled according to strict organic standards and they will sell individual herbs in a 4oz quantity so you will not have to purchase a full pound. I am sure there are many other herb company’s and health food stores that carry the herbs you will need. Just make sure they are organic.What cooking tools you will need:You will also need two stainless steel or glass 20 quart pots with lids.A large strainer.

A candy or water thermometer.Cheesecloth.For bottling you can use regular canning jars. If using pint jars you will need about 24 – 28 jars. If using quart jars you will need about 14 jars. This is a large recipe that will provide one year worth of tonics for the cancer patient, or, if using for a preventative go together with friends or family and share it.

How to make the tonic:

Making this tonic is like canning fruit from your garden. If you can cook you can make it. It takes a few days but is well worth it. You will not find this tonic on the market because it is time intense. The cost would be prohibitive to manufacture it, yet you can make it in your home for around $3.00 a pint. This tonic stores for up to a year if placed in a dark cool closet. They key to keeping tonics fresh is to prevent them from exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations. Don’t let them freeze and don’t let them sit in temperatures above 75*.In one pot add:Anise seed, burdock root, chaparral, dandelion root, fennel, licorice root, oregon grape root, poke root, yellow dock root and add 3 gallons of distilled water.Cover with lid and set on stove on warm heat overnight so that the roots can be softened for extraction.In the morning turn up the heat and bring the water to a low simmer for about 4 hours then bring to a boil for 15-30 minutes. After boiling turn off heat and strain the liquid into a clean container by laying a layer of cheesecloth over your strainer.In another pot add:Blue violet, red clover and add 1.5 gallons of distilled water. Set on counter and let soak in water over night.In the morning place the pot on the stove on warm/medium heat to steep (not boil) the herbs like you would a cup of tea. Let them steep for at least 4 hours then strain the liquid by laying a layer of cheesecloth over your strainer.Compost the strained herbs in your garden.Mixing the pots:Once the liquid is strained from both pots mix it together in one of the 20 quart pots and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.Then add 16 oz of vegetable glycerin,40 oz of honey (or black strap molasses for those allergic to honey)4 heaping tablespoons of citric acidStir and let the mixture mingle for 15 minutes or so. When ready to bottle use a candy thermometer to check the temperature of the liquid. You want the temperature between 185* - 190* to prevent any bacteria to grow in the tonics. Maintain this heat temperature throughout bottling.While waiting for your liquid to reach the accurate bottling temperature prepare your canning jars. Sterilize jars and lids.Once your bottles are sterilized and your herbal liquid is at the right temperature add the tonic liquid to the hot jars. Fill to ½” from top of jar and cap. Let cool overnight. Check to make sure all the jars are sealed properly then store them.Once you open a jar of tonic for use you must Refrigerate it. The tonic will last for a month in the refrigerator once it has been opened. Sediment in the bottom of the jars is normal. Give the jar a little shake or stir to mix the sediment before taking.How much to take:Adult Folklore Dosage: 2 Tablespoon 2 times a day for cancer, tumors, liver, viral and bacterial infections. In my practice I recommended that cancer patients take this tonic for at least a year and then drop to a maintenance dose of taking it once a day for another year. Some of my cancer patients continue to take it on and off throughout their life to keep their blood and lymph clear of toxins.For cancer prevention use a bottle of this tonic every 3 months taking 1 Tablespoon 2 times a day.Do use if you are pregnant. In the Chicago Tribune, October 2, 2007, the headline read " Bill would reduce meat inspections ", it goes on to say "despite E. coli scare, Congress mulls easing law ".
In the Chicago Tribune, October 4, 2007, " USDA took 18 days in the meat recall ". The article goes on to state " agency knew of tainted burgers" employee writes.
Both articles were by written Stephen J. Hedges, of the Washington Bureau.
Now commences the scary part.

The two headlines are bad enough, but when one goes into actually reading the full article, you just have to wonder “ who is getting rich, selling stupid pills “. Pure “lack of common sense” glares at you, as you read more of the article. So, in face of the largest, contaminated meat, recall in history, our Congress is considering legislation that would REDUCE required federal inspections for small meat companies that ship to another state. This little noticed-noticed legislative change is buried deep within the farm bill, approved in July, by the house. It mentions that “ only state inspections would be required for some meat products “.The measure was planted in the farm bill by Rep. Collin Peterson ( D-Minn. ) say congressional staffers familiar with the bill. Anyway, the meat in question had E.coli 0157:H7, in it. So what is E.coli, it is a possibly deadly bacterium that causes bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps and dehydration. Catch the “possibly deadly “ part of what E.coli represents to ones health, meaning it could kill one. Lest you overlook that part, it means E.coli poisoning, folks. Some states, at this time, do not even have meat inspection laws, and depend on the federal inspections. The second article goes into the reasons the USDA, delayed taking action. A tiny paragraph states, as I interpret it, “ if its only poop, don’t worry, but check to see if it is an E.coli strain that causes human illness “ ! It was finally classed as “ Class 1 “, which is the USDA’s most serious, with a reasonable probability that eating the food will cause health problems or death. What I found of interest, was that in the plant that was affected by the recall, there was previously, a USDA meat safety inspector within that plant. The article goes on to state that “ E.coli poisoning, is especially hard on children and the elderly and can, according to the USDA cause severe kidney damage.

This new, but rare thing is named Naegleria fowleri .It has already killed 23 people in the United States, from 1995 to 2004. This year, it has already claimed six cases. Three in Florida, two in Texas, and one in Arizona. Mention is made that since the 1960's, there has been " only several hundred " cases worldwide. It was discovered first, in Australia.
Usually fatal within two weeks of becoming infected.
Mentioned also, is that some drugs have stopped the amoeba in lab experiments, but people who have been attacked rarely survive.
Naegleria lives almost everywhere: in lakes, hot springs, even dirty swimming pools, grazing off algae and bacteria in the sediment.
Not much is yet known, is why Naegleria, infects children mostly, and boys more than girls.
Symptoms are listed as: infected persons tend to complain of a stiff neck, headaches and fevers. In later stages, they'll show signs of brain damage such as hallucinations and behavioral changes.
Prevention methods were listed as: Avoid swimming in warm standing water, and to wear a nose clip, if you do.
Can only wonder if information posted on spices and other remedies, in posts # 4, # 5, # 6, # 7, and # 14, would be effective with this new life-threatening situation.
My condolences to the Evans family, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz, on the recent loss of their son, Aaron, to this rare microscopic organism.

This Q&A report is a follow up from our hugely popular Pomegranate and Blueberry Juice Consumer Shopping Guide, which exposes dishonest juice products sold in grocery stores. Many readers are asking great questions about these products: Is raw better than pasteurized? Is reconstituted juice as good as freshly squeezed? Is the plastic bottle a threat to health? Must the juices be organic to be healthful?
This follow-up report attempts to answer these questions. Some of the information here is borrowed from the consumer shopping guide mentioned above.
Here are the big questions we're being asked about superfruit juices (along with answers for each one).
The top consumer questions about superfruit juices#1: Are pasteurized superfruit juice as healthy as raw juices?
No. Raw fruit juice is always healthier than pasteurized. Heat processing destroys a significant portion of the nutrients found in raw juice.
#2: Is the Bisphenol-A chemical in the plastic containers used with fruit juices a threat to my health?
A small threat, perhaps, but the health benefits of drinking superfruit juices greatly outweigh the health risks of plastics chemicals. Still, it's better to drink such juices from glass containers, not plastic.
#3: Are organic fruit juices healthier than non-organic?
Yes! Organic fruits have much higher concentrations of phytonutrients (natural plant medicines), vitamins and minerals. Organic farming is also better for the environment. But even non-organic superfruits are very good for your health, and in my opinion, the health benefits of the natural fruit juices far outweighs the cancer risk of pesticide residues.
#4: Why do you call apple juice and grape juice "junk juices?"
Many superfruit juice products that claim "pomegranate" or "blueberry" on the front label are actually made mostly with cheaper juices such as grape and apple. These are fillers juices that have very little nutritional value compared to pomegranate, blueberry, acai and others.
#5: Are juices made from concentrate as good as juices made fresh?
No! Juices from concentrate are usually imported from growers around the world (including China), then reconstituted with water. The process of removing the water in the first place causes a loss of some nutrients. Reconstituted fruit juice is never as nutritionally potent as fresh fruit juice.
There is also no requirement that juice companies list the country of origin for their juice concentrates. For all you know, they may have been imported from China or some other country famous for exporting contaminated products.
#6: What are the ingredients to watch out for on superfruit juice labels?
Watch out for use of the following:
• High fructose corn syrup (a refined sweetener linked to diabetes and obesity)• Sugar (refined table sugar)• Sucrose (also a refined sugar)• Sodium benzoate (a dangerous chemical preservative)• Apple juice (a filler juice and natural sweetener)• Grape juice (also used as a filler juice, better than sugars but still cheaper than superfruit juices
#7: How do I shop for a superfruit juice product?Here's some quick advice:
Top choice: 100% pure superfruit juice, made from fresh fruits (not from concentrate), packaged in glass. These are by far the most expensive juice drinks on the market.
Good choice: 100% pure superfruit juice, made from concentrate, packaged in plastic.
Poor choice: Juice blends containing some amount of superfruit juice (but mostly apple juice and grape juice or water), made from concentrate, packaged in plastic.
Stupid choice: Juice drinks made with high fructose corn syrup and water, containing a small amount of actual juice, packaged in plastic. These are by far the cheapest juice drinks on the market.
#8: What are the healthiest fruit juices, and what are they good for?
Pomegranate: Anti-cancer, protects the heart and cardiovascular system
Blueberry: Lowers high cholesterol, protects the nervous system from oxidative damage (many people can eliminate statin drugs by eating more blueberries)
Acai: Anti-cancer, reduces digestive cancer risk, supports healthy nervous system function
Noni: Extremely potent anti-cancer, immune-boosting fruit (tastes terrible, though, if it's real)
Cherry: Anti-inflammatory. Reduces or ends arthritis pain. Anthocyanins are also anti-cancer.
Cranberry: Well known to eliminate urinary tract infections (and even helps protect you from airborne viral infections).
In fact, the simple thing to remember is that every berry contains natural medicines and the smaller the berry, the more potent the medicine. So large berries like cherries, strawberries and grapes are not nearly as medicinally potent as tiny berries like cranberries, black raspberries, red raspberries, acai and red currants. The more vibrant the color of the berry, the more medicine it contains. Strong or bright colors indicate higher density of natural medicine.
To get the most benefits, eat a large diversity of berries on a regular basis. Don't just stick to eating or drinking one type of berry. Instead, seek out a wide variety of berries and other superfruits.
#9: Can juice products cure my cancer?
Probably not by themselves. Beating cancer with nutrition almost always requires these things:

#10: What brands of superfruit juice do you trust?
I don't trust any brands. I read the ingredients on everything. Sometimes the same company sells a crap product right next to a quality product. Don't trust brands, and don't trust corporations. Trust only yourself: Read the ingredients!
Additional information from the reportHere's a reprint of some summary information from our Pomegranate and Blueberry Juice Consumer Guide:
1. All the products reviewed here are dead! In other words, even the "honest" products are still made of dead, pasteurized fruits. None of these juices are raw, freshly-squeezed juices, which means they don't even come close to the nutritional value of raw, fresh juices.
The POM Wonderful company disagrees with that statement. Their website counters:
"In order to ensure that you are consuming a safe and healthy beverage, POM Wonderful flash-pasteurizes all its flavors of pomegranate juice. Flash-pasteurization is a process that involves a short period of heating to ensure the elimination of any bacteria. Your safety is our highest priority. Flash-pasteurization also involves a period of rapid cooling in order to retain flavor and nutrients. Flash-pasteurization does not reduce the healthy antioxidants that are found in POM Wonderful pomegranate juice."
However, it is my experience that heating always results in some loss of nutritional value of plant juices. Although the amount of this loss may be small, it is not zero. The actual amount of nutrition that's lost varies on many factors, including the type of nutrients being measured, the temperature to which they are heated and the duration of exposure. The higher the heat and the longer the exposure, the more nutrients are destroyed. That's why pasteurized orange juice, for example, is nutritionally inferior to freshly-squeezed orange juice.
The same is true with pomegranate juice, or blueberry juice, or even cherry juice. Nothing is quite as good as the fresh juices, which is why I strongly recommend the daily consumption of blended smoothies using a Vita-Mix and some raw, fresh ingredients. When you can get pomegranate seeds in season, it's always better to eat them fresh. They're crunchy and sweet, so buy 'em when you can.
When you can't get them in season, juice is the next best thing, and virtually all the juices on the market are made from concentrate. They still offer outstanding health benefits, including proven abilities to help prevent prostate cancer, for example, but they're not as medicinally potent as fresh pomegranate seeds.
2. Most of these pomegranate / blueberry juice products come in plastic containers. Plastics, you may know, often contain the bisphenol-A chemical which is thought to contribute to various cancers. The best products come in glass containers, not plastic. (I recommend buying fruit juices in glass wherever possible.)
3. There are likely pesticide residues in the non-organic juice products. Pesticides aren't listed on the ingredients label, but they're nonetheless present. However, the benefits of consuming these superfruits far outweighs the health effects of trace pesticide consumption, in my opinion, so from a personal perspective, you're still protecting your health with these juice products even if you consume some pesticide residues. For the record, I do not support pesticide use in agriculture and I believe that consumers should buy organic products whenever possible.
4. Some of the healthiest products taste the most bitter. The best-tasting products likely use filler juices such as apple juice and grape juice (which tastes sugary!). Pure pomegranate juice is somewhat bitter and not at all super sweet. So don't judge the quality of these products by how good they taste. The best taste may mean the worst nutrition.
5. Juice concentrates are never as good as fresh juices. Of all the brands reviewed here, most were made from juice concentrates. This means the pomegranates are harvested, blended and dried (usually at high temperatures), then shipped to another facility where the concentrate is re-hydrated, then pasteurized (heated again) and shipped off to the grocery stores. While this process keeps costs down and makes these products more affordable, it also destroys some of the medicinal phytonutrients found in pomegranate juice.
6. Country of origin labeling is not mandatory. Where does all the pomegranate concentrate come from for the products that use concentrate? Nobody knows! One company does say their concentrate is from Turkey, but other companies list nothing. I can tell you from experience that some of this stuff comes from China and is probably contaminated with various heavy metals or scary agricultural toxins. China is the cheapest sources for just about everything in the food and supplement business, but it's also the most highly contaminated source in the world. Sadly, there is no requirement for juice companies to list the country of origin for their juice concentrates.
7. Watch the sugar content of these juices.The other thing to remember with juices made from concentrate is that they tend to be very high in natural sugars, yet they lack the natural fibers found in the original plant. Why does that matter? Because it alters the glycemic index of the juice.
Eight oz. of pomegranate juice (one serving) can deliver over 30 grams of sugars. That's more than two servings of a sweetened breakfast cereal. It's a lot of sugar to deal with. And if you're diabetic or hypoglycemic, you should never drink these juices on an empty stomach. When you eat real pomegranate seeds, you see, the natural seed fibers slow the absorption of the pomegranate sugars. So the glycemic index of pomegranate seeds is far lower than the glycemic index of pomegranate juice. Keep this in mind when planning your consumption of this juice.
Tips: Eat a salad or other high-fiber foods before consuming juices made from concentrate (including pom juice, grape juice, orange juice, blueberry juice or even apple juice). These might include a bowl of oatmeal with extra oat bran, a fresh apple (which contains plenty of fiber), whole grains that are well-chewed, or fiber supplements such as glucomannan. You might also add cinnamon to your oatmeal or breakfast cereal, since cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar and effectively lowers the glycemic index of anything you eat during the same meal.
However, it should be noted that pomegranate sugars are somewhat unique in that they do not spike blood sugar levels as easily as other fruit sugars. It's a mysterious effect, actually, and scientists are not sure why pomegranate juice seems to be so mild in its blood sugar effects. This makes it the ideal juice for diabetics, as it also helps reduce atherosclerosis risks in diabetics. Read Pomegranate Juice Could Benefit Diabetics for more details.
This is also a good reason to go with the higher-quality pomegranate juices mentioned here rather than low-quality juice blends made with apple juice or grape juice (both of which are high on the glycemic index scale). Pure pomegranate juice is far better for your blood sugar than a blend of apple juice or grape juice.
More details on the plastics questionThere is increasing concern today about the health effects of eating foods or drinking liquids packaged in plastic. Since most pomegranate juices are packaged in plastic bottles, this is a reasonable concern.
The offending chemical usually cited in this context is bisphenol-A, a hormone mimicker. Many health experts believe that the rise on hormone-related cancers in western societies today is due, in part, to all of the synthetic hormone-like chemicals found in foods, drugs and packaging. Thus, if people are drinking pomegranate juice to help prevent prostate cancer, doesn't it seem contradictory that the juice would be packaged in plastic containers believed to contribute to prostate cancer?
The real answer, in my educated opinion, is found in the heat factor. Plastic releases more chemicals when it is heated. As a result, cooking foods in plastic may be extremely hazardous to your health, but eating liquids stored in cold plastic may, in fact, only expose you to a tiny fraction of the same chemicals. Although this is not a scientific number, here's a reasonable estimation: Food heated in plastic may generate 500 times the bisphenol-A contamination as food kept cold in plastic containers. Thus, cold plastic containers seem relatively safe.
But don't think you're safe yet! The real question here is: What was the temperature of the juice when it was poured into the plastic bottle at the manufacturing facility? For food safety reasons, it would make operational sense to flash-pasteurize the pomegranate juice and pour it into the bottles as quickly as possible, sealing them from possible bacterial contamination. If this is true, it would mean that high-temperature juice comes into contact with the plastic container, and this could be an opportunity for the release of bisphenol-A.
However, I am not a beverage production engineer, and I'm not familiar with the exact process used by juice bottling companies. In any case, regardless of the above, the safest containers are glass because they don't emit any bisphenol-A chemicals whatsoever. In fact, there's nothing harmful in glass, and it's the container of choice for health-conscious consumers.
Of course, glass breaks easily, and it's heavy. These two factors make plastic the obvious choice for cost-conscious companies who are mass-marketing their juices through the retail channels (grocery stores, etc.) But make no mistake: glass is the container of choice for health-conscious consumers.
How much superfruit juice should I drink?With all the good news about pomegranate juice, many people wonder exactly how much juice they should drink. I find this to be a curious question, borrowed from the pharmaceutical mindset of the population where everything has to have a dosage and side effects disclaimer.
My opinion? Drink as much as you want. This isn't some drug. You can't overdose on pomegranate juice. Just drink at least one serving (8 oz.) a day if you want any serious health benefits.
Pom juice is an excellent addition to any smoothie, by the way, and I've published a collection of healthy smoothie recipes in my book, Superfood Smoothies.
Are the health benefits of pomegranate really so miraculous?Yes they are. If the drug companies had come up with this, they'd call it a miracle drug and try to get it prescribed to everyone. But it's from nature, not a drug company, so it can't be patented, marketed and sold at ridiculous profits. That's why this genuine natural medicine is only a couple of bucks per serving (or dose).
In my view, it's one of the best investments in your health. For less than the price of a cup of coffee at Starbucks, you can have an anti-cancer, anti-Alzheimer's, anti-heart disease, anti-diabetes drink that's delicious and healthful. That beats a can of sugar water soda any day!
Remember: The best medicine comes from nature. Plants are like tiny pharmaceutical factories, and they synthesize natural medicines automatically, using soil, sunshine, air and water. It's amazing, but true. These medicines are what the human body was intended to eat, not the processed factory food advertised on television and stocked in grocery store shelves. Food made by man will probably kill you. But food made by nature will heal you, and pomegranate juice is made entirely by nature. Get it fresh if you can, or mininally processed as a second choice.
Scientists today have only begun to explore the healing benefits of pomegranate juice. In the years ahead, even more medicinal benefits will almost certainly be found. I predict that pomegranate juice will one day be prescribed as preventive medicine to halt cancers and protect cardiovascular health. One thing for sure is that drinking pomegranate juice has no negative side effects. You'll be healthier and happier by consuming this miraculous fruit on a daily basis.

Am pleased to post this information on healing cancer naturally, with herbs.

For Successful Healing, Cancer Must Be Treated as a Multi-System Disease by Leslee Dru Browning (NewsTarget Citizen Journalism Report)

You have just been diagnosed with cancer. Your oncologist is pushing you to begin chemotherapy immediately. You know that chemotherapy will make you sick, your hair fall out and leave you completely debilitated and dependent on someone to care for you. You will suffer severe side-effects that may leave your nervous system damaged, weaken your bones or damage your heart. You also realize that chances are your cancer will return after months of grueling treatments. You think maybe you would like to try alternative medicine but your oncologist is against it and you know of others who tried that route and died.
What you may not know is this: Cancer can be healed naturally, and is done so every day, but it takes more than a multivitamin, a few supplements and a daily bowl of blueberries to accomplish complete healing. As an herbalist who has spent many years helping cancer patients heal themselves I have come to the conclusion, like many herbalists before me, that cancer is a result of what I call ‘poor blood’ – by poor I mean the blood is not in optimal condition. Since the blood circulates through every organ in the body and through every cell, it only makes sense that toxins in the blood contaminate the entire body. Blood becomes less than optimal when it is not nourished properly. Without proper nourishment to the blood the body will not survive. It may survive for awhile, even years, but ultimately, the body will suffer from starvation to organs which ultimately causes illness with cancer often resulting as the eventual killer. Therefore, the fundamental goal in curing cancer is not only to restore the blood but to also treat the lymph glands, kidneys, liver, bowel, and bones by nourishment found in herbs. Herbs are effective in healing the body because they are modulators and understand the intricacy of the body’s innate healing capabilities. Their role is to enhance and direct the body’s various systems to function optimally thereby restoring health without doing harm.
Begin with an herbal blood/lymph tonic that includes herbs to build the blood, cleanse the blood, inhibit bacteria, and boost the white blood cells, the red blood cells, and the immune system. An example of a combination of herbs for a tonic that would fit the above criteria is:
anise seed (anti-spasmodic, anti-microbial and appetite stimulant),
astragalus (helps trigger immune cells),
blue violet/sweet violets (has a good reputation for it’s anti-cancer properties through its blood purifying ability),
burdock (has been shown to have anti-cancer properties; removes uric acid from body),
chaparral (anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-tumor),
fennel (excellent for digestion; supports spleen and gallbladder)
dandelion root (a rich source of vitamins and minerals),

red clover (clinical evidence has shown there is basis for its long-standing reputation as an anti-cancer herb though purifying the blood),
yellow dock (excellent for purifying blood supplied to the glands; improves function of the intestines, kidneys, liver and lymph glands; eliminates pollutants including lead and arsenic).The kidneys need to be supported because they are the organs that filter the blood. They are responsible for separating urea, mineral salts, toxins and other waste products from the blood to be discarded in the urine while it sends clean blood back into the body. They also conserve water, salts, and electrolytes. Prescription medicine is the biggest cause of kidney toxicity with heavy metals from pollution a close second. When the kidneys are weak due to congestion they are unable to completely filter waste products from the blood, which is why an herbal kidney formula needs to be incorporated in all cancer treatments. A good kidney formula might contain cilantro (removes heavy metals), cleavers (clears obstructions, reduces swelling, and is also excellent for the lymphatic system making it a wise choice for any kidney tonic when the body has cancer; it will keep the lymph clear),

hydrangea root (reduces backache due to kidney pain and dissolves obstructions)
gravel root (dissolves kidney stones),
uva ursi (antibiotic properties),
sandalwood (antiseptic),
marshmallow root (high Vitamin A content; it is also good to clear mucus buildup in the kidneys and anywhere else in the body),
sarsaparilla (blood purifier; kidney circulation),
saw palmetto (urinary & prostate support).
The liver is part of the digestive system. It stores carbohydrates, fats, and proteins until it can break them down. The main purpose of the liver is to clean out fluids and to clear toxins from the blood. The liver is a highly vascular tissue so it is important that the body’s circulation is in good condition otherwise the liver may become congested. If the body is sick with cancer the liver needs help. It needs to be cleansed while at the same time built up. Some of the herbs you might choose for a liver tonic to both cleanse and heal the liver are:
agrimony (not only helps the liver but also supports the intestines)
barberry (aids in the secretion of bile and helps regulate digestive problems), bupleurum (liver specific but it also works for inflammation and pain), dandelion (helps bile duct inflammation and gives gastric balance while supporting the gall bladder and pancreas)
horehound (for chronic liver illness),
parsley (supports blood vessels and capillaries),
pau d’ arco (clears out liver poisons and fungus),
licorice (provides energy and works to heal hepatitis and liver lesions),
milk thistle (liver diseases and gallbladder support),
oregon grape (a hepatic which means it is specific for treating the liver while at the same time a powerful blood cleanser),
wild yam (for bilious colic, indigestion and spasms).
Now we look to the colon. The purpose of the colon as an eliminative organ is to remove waste material by mass muscular contraction called peristalsis. In my experience I have found that nearly 75% of cancer patients have suffered from some form of chronic constipation during their lives. I consider constipation when the bowels do not move at least once a day. When the bowels do not move daily poisons can accumulate in the colon. Depending on where the poison accumulates in the colon will depend on where cancer develops for there is a point on the colon for every organ and system in the body. Any of these points, if clogged, toxic, or full of old fecal matter, will eventually bring illness to that part of the body the colon signifies. The bowel must be swept clean of all debris. Some people will need a gentle nudge while others require a greater nudge. Herbs that can be used in combination for healing the colon are:
aloe vera (has anti-cancer properties; has a long reputation for bowel health; rich in over 200 nutrients),
barberry (for bacteria, not only in the bowel, but anywhere in the body),
black walnut hull (for parasites),
cascara sagrada (anti-biotic effects on harmful bacteria in the colon; restores nerve tone to the colon; cleanses the intestines, builds the bowel, treats a sluggish gallbladder, kills intestinal parasites),
cinnamon (kills parasite eggs),
cramp bark (eases cramping),
fenugreek seed (clears out hardened mucus),
gentian (for digestive function including production of stomach acid to break down foods)
marshmallow root (helps heal gastritis; is smooth moving; fibrous so it also sweeps and cleans),
plantain (clears toxic waste from the body),
red raspberry leaf (has anti-cancer properties including ellagic acid),
rhubarb (anti-bacterial; eases stomach pain; mild laxative),
yucca (reduces toxins in the alimentary canal; aids digestion; relieves pain; reduces inflammation; breaks up mineral deposits).
Bones also need to be protected so that cancer does not invade to them. Calcium-rich herbs along with red blood cell building herbs will protect the bones as well as give a boost to bone marrow:
codonopsis (it stimulates the growth of red blood cells, enhances T-Cell transformation; enhances the spleen and lung),
gota kola (strengthens the connective tissue),
ho-shou-wo (lumbago, weak bone, sinew and cartilage),
horsetail (bones, skin and nails; high in silica),
nettles (anemia; red blood cells),
oatstraw (heart, nerves, nutritive; calcium; used for general debility),
red clover (calcium, chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, copper, iron, thiamine, and vitamin C),
red raspberry (acts as a nutritive; rich in calcium),
rose hips (source of vitamin K),
suma (powerful immune stimulator).
It only takes 4 or 5 tonics to heal the blood, lymphatic system, urinary system, digestive system, circulatory system and skeletal system depending on the herbal combinations chosen. The reason is because most herbal combinations will include herbs that treat other organs and conditions as well.
Horehound, licorice and blue violet along with marshmallow are excellent for the lungs. Licorice root also supports the adrenal glands. Many of the kidney herbs treat the prostrate. The lymphatic herbs will treat the breast. Herbs in the colon/bowel tonic will treat fungus and Candida. Plantain will eliminate poisons in the body and yucca can help with inflammation while black walnut kills parasites. Bupleurum will help with pain and inflammation.Every cancer patient should be given one form or another of the above tonics made specifically to fit their special needs for their liver, kidneys, bowel, and bones, along with a blood tonic. The blood tonic should be chosen and made specifically for the type of cancer the client has; just as each person is unique, cancer’s are different as well. I believe all herbal tonics should be in liquid form. Liquid is easy on the digestive organs and it goes straight to the problem. The results are faster and the patient is not overwhelmed with having to swallow 40 or more supplements a day. It is advantageous when the patient is under a great deal of fatigue. Concentrate herbal tonics along with diet changes, essential fatty acids, probiotics, alpha-lipoic-acid for brain protection and at least 9 hour of sleep a night will put you on your way to healing your cancer and restoring your health.Locate a local herbalist who can prepare concentrated herbal liquid tonics, or teas, for you that are tailored to your special needs.

# 110 If You Drink Milk? The Best Is !

Once upon a time there was real food. Once upon a time there was good meat. Once upon a time you could eat a meal and not get ill. All is well. Or is it? What has changed? Distribution of wholesome and safe perishable food stuff, is a modern day wonder. So why does one frequently read, in recent years, about starvation, lack of potable water, new types of sicknesses, obesity, and strain resistant viruses, and on and on! What has happened to the original altruist desire to alleviate hunger and pain in the world? Where has the integrity of "my word is my bond", "my handshake is my bond", gone too! What has happened to " applied common sense "! What has happened to the worlds leaders, that still seem unaware that wars, illness and environmental destruction, are rampant? Oh, lets form a committee to evaluate it. Than ignore common sense guidelines on how to best correct a given situation. Oh, why not just keep talking about it, until it fades away! Anyway, our food products are stripped of valuable nutrients, and replaced with harmful chemicals and brainwashing the public into believing its good for them. Well now , enough for now.

One of the most common questions I'm asked concerns my recommendations for milk or milk alternatives. My answer on this question has evolved over the years, so today, I'll share my latest preferences for milk and milk-like beverages.

Soy milk A few years ago, I recommended soy milk as a natural alternative to cow's milk. But since then, far better alternatives have emerged (see below). Also, more information has appeared regarding the environmental impact of soybean farming (the Amazon rainforest is being devastated by clear cutting to create soybean agricultural lands) as well as the frightening fact that most soybeans grown today are genetically modified (GMO) varieties.On top of this, most popular soy milk brands (I won't name names, but these are likely the ones in your grocery store) have been bought out by big, profit-seeking food and beverage corporations, and as a result, they've been sugared up and made nutritionally inferior. Check the ingredients on "plain" soy milk the next time you're at the store: It's loaded with sugar!Without question, most soy milk has become too mainstream, too sugary and too much controlled by the same food and beverage giants that are still manufacturing and marketing other products that promote degenerative disease. Because of these reasons, I no longer recommend soy milk (unless you make it yourself or get it from a small, truly natural company).

Processed cow's milkI'm also not thrilled about processed milk from cows. By "processed," I mean homogenized and pasteurized. The pasteurization kills all the beneficial microorganisms, and homogenization artificially modifies dairy fats in a way that ultimately harms the human cardiovascular system when consumed. Processed "mainstream" milk is also taken from dairy cows pumped up with antibiotics, rBGH (Bovine Growth Hormone) and usually treated very poorly in terms of ethics. Even the popular brands showing happy cows and claiming to be organic are under intense fire by the Organic Consumers Association (http://www.organicconsumers.org/) for exploiting certain loopholes that allow non-organic cows to be suddenly considered "organic" on the day they're giving milk.Processed cow's milk is bad for your health and bad for the cows who give it. It's great for corporate profits, however, and that's why milk continues to be so heavily marketed as a nutritional beverage. They've even managed to so strongly influence the USDA that the latest dietary recommendations by this government agency essentially recommend that everyone should drink more milk. And it's no surprise that infant formula manufacturers have, for decades, tried to convince nutritionally ignorant mothers that cow's milk is better for their baby than human breast milk. (An odd idea, isn't it?)

Raw milk Over the last two years, I've become a proponent of raw milk (especially raw fermented milk, see below). Raw goat's milk is my personal recommendation, but even raw cow's milk has merit. What's so good about raw milk? Because it's not homogenized or pasteurized, it's nutritionally superior to dead, cooked milk. Raw milk seems to be far easier to digest, and it contains living bacteria cultures that enhance digestion and even soothe the digestive tract.It's no surprise, then, that raw milk is under attack by both federal regulators and some members of the processed milk industry. They don't want people to find a "superior" milk that isn't as profitable to sell (because it has reduced shelf life), so they're trying to destroy the raw milk market and limit consumer choice to processed, dead milk. (The same is true in the almond industry, where the Almond Board of California is now trying to irradiate all almonds grown in the state, yet have them labeled as "raw" even when they're dead.)This attack on raw milk is dressed up to look like a public safety concern. Raw milk is dangerous, regulators claim, because the live cultures might get contaminated with unfriendly bacteria and harm someone. The preferred alternative, it seems, is to kill all the food so that it harms everyone equally.In terms of choosing raw milk, the typical choices are raw cow's milk and raw goat's milk. Raw goat's milk is more compatible with human nutritional needs (and is especially beneficial to infants when mother's milk isn't available), but it has a stronger taste that not everyone enjoys. I encourage you to try both raw goat's milk and raw cow's milk, then decide what you like best. The proteins in the goat's milk are, no doubt, easier for humans to digest.

Fermented raw milkThe best dairy beverage for your health is, in my opinion, fermented raw milk. If you take raw milk and inoculate it with bacterial cultures, then let it sit for a day or two, you end up with a living, predigested, nutritionally superior beverage that's so packed with life it's actually fizzy (carbonated due to the off-gassing of bacteria) when you make it yourself at home.One form of this fermented milk is called Kefir. It's an incredible beverage when you make it yourself. The store-bought kefir just isn't the same because it's usually dead, flat and pasteurized. But home-made kefir is something else entirely! It's alive, energetic and completely natural.I was recently treated to some kefir made from raw goat's milk by a raw foods chef in Tucson -- a man I hope to feature on NewsTarget videos later this year. He makes kefir in jars on his kitchen countertop, using a kefir culture that's been passed down from one raw foodist to another for years... maybe even decades. It contained no sweeteners or additives of any kind; just raw goat's milk cultured with bacteria. After drinking it, I noticed an immediate energetic difference, and in the days that followed, I was amazed at the therapeutic effect on my digestive and eliminative processes. Since then, I've really upped my intake of fermented foods in general.Store-bought kefir is tricky. Definitely avoid non-organic kefir of any kind, and I strongly recommend that even when you buy organic kefir, avoid products made with added sugars. This is a fermented beverage, not ice cream. Don't think it's supposed to taste like a milkshake. It's a slightly bitter beverage when you drink it plain, but that's what kefir is supposed to be.

Raw almond milk Another current favorite at my house is raw almond milk. It's made from raw, soaked almonds, water, vanilla and a pinch of sea salt. I've posted a video on how to make this yourself using a Vita-Mix. (Click here to see the video.)Raw almond milk is both delicious and nutritious. While it doesn't have the protein content of animal milk, it's rich in plant-based fats and various anti-cancer phytonutrients. Once you make a batch, you'll need to drink it within a day or two, since it tends to sour very quickly (it's alive, raw and nutritious, obviously), but I've found that you can preserve it in the refrigerator for several days longer by adding a couple of drops of food-grade hydrogen peroxide.Many raw food proponents are now drinking a combination of raw almond milk and raw goat's milk kefir. That's a combination I'm enjoying, too. It's good to have a balance of both plant and animal-based milks, but only if they're from ethically treated, naturally raised animals who are not exposed to antibiotics, toxic chemicals or conventional veterinary care (which is all based on chemicals, just like human health care).

Mike's Milk MatrixOkay, here's the low down on milk products and milk alternatives as I see it:
Soy milk: Not recommended. Too many GMO soybeans, bad environmental impact and some possible undesirable estrogen effects. The isoflavones are good for preventing cancer, however.Processed cow's milk: It's just gross. Homogenized, pasteurized, milked from unhealthy cows and containing alarmingly high levels of pus, this liquid is nothing less than frightening. Flee it.Raw cow's milk (organic): This is an acceptable dairy beverage. If it's from healthy cows treated with kindness and good nutrition, this raw beverage is far better than processed cow's milk.Row goat's milk (organic): Even better than raw cow's milk, since the goat's milk is easier to digest and more compatible with human nutritional needs.Fermented milk from cows or goats (organic Kefir): A great choice! It's alive, nutritious and great for digestive health. Make it yourself for best results. # 109 Applied Common Sense and Mercury In Your Baby !

With all the published guidelines, stating that people should make every effort to avoid ingesting mercury contaminated fish and foods, where is the applied common sense in this situation? Of course, how stupid of me, sell the toxic mercury, and bank tons of dollars, while ignoring the very real dangers of eating mercury. Oh, more stupid me, just think on it, some group somewhere, can become billionaires, selling 10 million pounds of toxic mercury, at your healths risk.

WASHINGTON (November 16, 2006) -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is considering selling some 1,300 tons of surplus mercury on the international market, prompting urgent warnings from health organizations that the toxic metal would easily find its way back into the domestic food chain from the developing world where it's typically used today.
There is no question that mercury from this sale would find its way up the food chain, onto our plates, and into our bodies," said Dr. Linda Greer, an environmental toxicologist and director of NRDC's Environmental Health Program. "Inviting less developed countries to a close-out sale on surplus American poison is sheer lunacy given what we know about how easily mercury moves around the globe."
Prenatal and infant mercury exposure can cause mental retardation, cerebral palsy, deafness and blindness. Even in low doses, mercury may affect a child's development, delaying walking and talking, shortening attention span and causing learning disabilities. In adults, it can adversely affect fertility and blood pressure, and cause memory loss, tremors, vision loss and other problems. Growing evidence suggests exposure to mercury may also lead to heart disease.
"We've got to stop the cycle of toxic mercury trade that winds up contaminating the fish we eat," said Dr. Greer.
Mercury also poses a substantial direct health risk to workers around the world, said Michael Bender, director of the Mercury Policy Project. "As many as 15 million gold miners in more than 40 countries, for example, are at risk from high-concentration mercury vapors and mercury intoxication, which can lead to severe nervous system poisoning," he said. "The U.S. government has a moral obligation to restrict its exports to developing countries, as the European Union recently proposed to do by 2011"

Bush Plans to Veto Removal of Mercury From Infant Vaccines

Despite a 2004 campaign promise to the contrary, President Bush continues to allow the mercury-containing vaccine preservative thimerosal to be added to childhood flu vaccines.Thousands of parents believe the preservative has caused mercury poisoning and autism in their children. Still, President Bush plans to veto the HHS-Labor-Education Appropriations Bill, which includes a measure to ban childhood flu vaccines that contain thimerosal, because of the cost and “objectionable provisions.”As it stands, flu vaccines which contain thimerosal, are recommended for all pregnant women, infants and children, even though the Institute of Medicine recommended in 2001 that these population groups not be exposed to thimerosal-containing vaccines. One in every six women of childbearing age has enough mercury in their bloodstream to cause neurological damage to their unborn children, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Power Corrupts

When a person gains power over other persons — the political power to force other persons to do his bidding when they do not believe it right to do so — it seems inevitable that a moral weakness develops in the person who exercises that power.
It may take time for this weakness to become visible. In fact, its full extent is frequently left to the historians to record, but we eventually learn of it. It was Lord Acton, the British historian, who said: "All power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Please do not misunderstand me. These persons who are corrupted by the process of ruling over their fellow men are not innately evil. They begin as honest men. Their motives for wanting to direct the actions of others may be purely patriotic and altruistic. Indeed, they may wish only "to do good for the people." But, apparently, the only way they can think of to do this "good" is to impose more restrictive laws.
Now, obviously, there is no point in passing a law which requires people to do something they would do anyhow; or which prevents them from doing what they are not going to do anyhow. Therefore, the possessor of the political power could very well decide to leave every person free to do as he pleases so long as he does not infringe upon the same right of every other person to do as he pleases. However, that concept appears to be utterly without reason to a person who wants to exercise political power over his fellow man, for he asks himself: "How can I 'do good' for the people if I just leave them alone?" Besides, he does not want to pass into history as a "do nothing" leader who ends up as a footnote somewhere. So he begins to pass laws that will force all other persons to conform to his ideas of what is good for them.

That is the danger point! The more restrictions and compulsions he imposes on other persons, the greater the strain on his own morality. As his appetite for using force against people increases, he tends increasingly to surround himself with advisers who also seem to derive a peculiar pleasure from forcing others to obey their decrees. He appoints friends and supporters to easy jobs of questionable necessity. If there are not enough jobs to go around, he creates new ones. In some instances, jobs are sold to the highest bidder. The hard-earned money of those over whom he rules is loaned for questionable private endeavors or spent on grandiose public projects at home and abroad. If there is opposition, an emergency is declared or created to justify these actions.

If the benevolent ruler stays in power long enough, he eventually concludes that power and wisdom are the same thing. And as he possesses power, he must possess wisdom. He becomes converted to the seductive thesis that election to public office endows the official with both power and wisdom. At this point, he begins to lose his ability to distinguish between what is morally right and what is politically expedient.

It's time for America to admit mistakes in Iraq, academic says

Princeton professor Anne-Marie Slaughter's new book is plastered with glowing blurbs from the likes of former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright ("a brilliant book, deeply moving, exquisitely timed") and George Shultz ("Read this book and be challenged to ... work for American values").

"The Idea That Is America: Keeping Faith with Our Values in a Dangerous World" is also wrapped in an image of the flag, packed with American history, sprinkled with quotes from the Founding Fathers -- and profoundly critical of this nation's post 9/11 foreign policy, at one point referring to a law limiting the rights of Guantanamo Bay detainees as "democracy at its lowest."

Intrigued, we picked up a copy and read Slaughter's impassioned argument that America has strayed from the bedrock values -- liberty, equality, democracy -- embodied in documents such as the Declaration of Independence. "What I really want is an America that will simply stand up and say, as President Bush did when he saw the Abu Ghraib photographs, that this is not who we are," she writes in a passage condemning the use of torture against suspected terrorists. "I want a president, and a country, who means it."

We caught up with Slaughter, 48, dean of Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, during a recent stop on her book tour.

The following is an edited transcript.

Q So it's time for America to eat some humble pie?

A I do think that. We would gain a huge amount of capital if we just admitted that we've made some major mistakes, and I find it so incredible that we don't have the guts to do that. You know, I'm a mother and I spend my time telling my kids -- they're 8 and 10 -- look, you did [something wrong], admit it, take the responsibility and move on. That's what character's about. And we seem incapable of doing that as a nation.

Q Were we wrong to go into Iraq?

A We were wrong about weapons of mass destruction. We were wrong about what it was going to take to rebuild Iraq. We were incredibly arrogant -- thinking that we knew [the weapons of mass destruction] were there, even when the rest of the world was telling us: why don't we wait a little longer? No, no, we knew [better]. And then [it was], we could do this in a month. And then, we only needed 150,000 troops and the Iraqis were going to greet us in the streets.
We've made some really big mistakes.

Q. What about the people who say, maybe we were wrong, maybe we made mistakes, but under Saddam Hussein, innocent people were tortured and the Kurds were gassed. Why are we the ones who have to step forward and admit we were wrong?

A. Well, two wrongs don't make a right. I mean, [this is] really basic, right? You tell your kids this. Your kid says, "Well, Johnny did it." OK, great, Johnny did it -- but you don't. This is not about groveling. It's not about going around apologizing all the time. It's about having the strength and character to be humble and recognize that you don't know everything. It's about being stronger because you show people that you're big enough to acknowledge when you've made errors.

Q. You're a liberal, right?

A. I am a liberal, but I am deeply bipartisan, and indeed, when I submitted the book proposal, many publishers didn't want it because they wanted it to be much more partisan.

Q. You do make some fairly liberal assumptions -- for instance, that readers look favorably on gay marriage. Are you talking to the Red States in this book?

A. I think I'm very much talking to people in the Red States; indeed, the most supportive radio interview I've gotten has been [Dan] Gresham on Fox radio. Absolutely. Because this is the language of the Red States. I grew up in the South, and I've had people come up to me -- I just gave a talk in Washington -- and three people came up, two from the military and one from Texas, and [one] said, "Ah, this is exactly what I need because this is the language that the people I talk to are comfortable with. This is the language of American values. It's the language of our heritage. It's the language of the flag." And it is not a language that I think many liberal Democrats are comfortable with.
This radio interviewer, he said at the end, "Ya know, I'll follow you anywhere."

Q. Did he agree with, say, the idea of a PAR index -- that other countries should rate us in terms of our government's accountability, respect for rights and representativeness?

A. [Laughs] We didn't get that far, but we definitely talked about Abu Ghraib. We talked about what this country was standing for in the world, and he actually said that we need to get back to something that crosses the political divide. You cannot doubt, if you read this book, that I love this country as much as you do. You cannot doubt it. Now, I have my set of experiences, and you have yours, and we [may] disagree, but there is this common heritage that we have, and we should be assuming that we're [all] trying to find our way forward, according to our principles.

Q. For me, one of the most eye-popping statistics in your book is that 95 percent of Jordanians think that Americans should be more religious, not less. Can you explain that?

A. I think it's because of what the average Jordanian sees of America, and what they see is Hollywood -- what they see are reruns of "Baywatch," or movies, or the Super Bowl halftime with Janet Jackson.

Q. And you're saying that perception hurts us?

A. Absolutely.

Q. And what can we do to change it?

A. One of the things we could do -- I talk about our convening a dialogue of civilizations. And our talking about what we value in other civilizations. The hall of the lawgivers in Congress has Hammurabi -- a great Babylonian, well, that's Iraq. It has Suleiman -- a great Muslim lawgiver. It has, of course, Moses. It has Maimonides. It has Greek and Roman lawgivers.
And that's [a] conception of Western civilization that is deeply embracing of the Islamic tradition, even the pre-Islamic tradition. That would be a different notion [of America for Muslim nations]: We [in America] stand for universal values. America has contributed one very distinct set of experiences to the realization of those values. But only one. And that would create a space for Muslims to look at the glories of their civilization.

# 107 Pet Food Calamity and Humans

Can the Pet Food Calamity Also Harm You?

According to the FDA, thousands of hogs in a number of states, as well as poultry at a Missouri farm, ate pet food that had been laced with the industrial chemical melamine.

This means that the contaminant, which has been responsible for the deaths of pets across the United States, has potentially entered the human food supply.

Urine from hogs in California, North Carolina, and South Carolina tested positive for melamine, and it is possible that hogs in New York, Utah, and Ohio may have done so as well.

The FDA believes that melamine was added to Chinese products to artificially inflate their nitrogen content, and therefore their price. FDA inspections have steadily dropped over the past few years, while at the same time the use of imported food has increased greatly.

The FDA plans to begin tests of imported Chinese corn gluten and corn meal, soy protein, rice bran and rice protein concentrate, and wheat gluten.

These products are used as ingredients in many foods ranging from breakfast cereal to baby formula. The now recalled pet food contained contaminated wheat gluten that had been designated suitable for human consumption, although there is as yet no evidence that it directly entered the human food supply.

In addition to melamine, a chemical used to make fertilizer and plastics, the FDA is testing Chinese imports for cyanuric acid, another high-nitrogen chemical also used as a pool and hot tub cleaner.

There's a simple explanation for this poisoning of pets, and possibly humans, in this country, apart from the chemicals themselves -- the lack of proper oversight. Frankly, if contaminated rice, soy, and corn products have not ended up in the processed foods sold in your corner grocery store, it's because of a lucky coincidence, not the result of infrequent government inspections.

Of course, it's easy for unscrupulous manufacturers to add extra chemicals to processed foods, as well. When the ingredients are refined, dehydrated, synthetic, or stripped down to powder, who's going to notice a few chemicals more or less ... at least, until they start causing problems.

It's easy to slip in unhealthy chemicals because these "foods" already are unhealthy chemicals. It's much more difficult to adulterate natural, organic, whole foods, however; why and how would anyone add melamine to a carrot, for instance?

This is particularly tragic for all the pets that lost their lives because of this mistake. But nearly all conventional pets are just as seriously misfed as the general public.

Commercial pet food is a disaster waiting to happen, as this story clearly demonstrates. Pets, just like you, were designed to consume unprocessed and, for the most part, uncooked, raw foods. When one deviates from those choices, disease -- and not health -- results.

I am very close to partnering with a vet who is my equivalent in the pet world, and I am excited to have him share his message that so needs to be heard as millions of pets are suffering needlessly.

There's no better time than the present to step away from processed foods and begin to optimize your health and eating based on your body's unique metabolic type. You can protect yourself even further, if you want, by purchasing local food directly from the farms of producers you know and trust, through a CSA or other local food organization.

As for your pets, you can safeguard their health by feeding them a naturally balanced diet of raw meat and vegetables that's better than any processed pet food. Several years ago, I raised a simple question in a national food scientific colloquium, on the subject of pet food processing.

There were many veterinarians and animal nutritionists and experts in this field in the audience, mostly working for larger processed pet food companies.

The question was: "Could anyone comment on reports (I had read) that European dogs, particularly in Spain and Italy, eating human table scraps (veggies, pasta, unprocessed meat/poultry/fish/lamb, polenta, rice, etc.), live an average of 6 to 7 years longer than American counterparts, versus dogs eating processed canned, aseptic, or dry dog food here (USA)?"

I thought I was going to be lynched on the spot, by the incredulous verbal reactions, and knee-jerk denunciations of my question that ensued (and no one answering the the question asked)!

It was a free-for-all for the next 20 minutes, until the moderator, on the panel I was sitting on, moved on to another subject.

Obviously, I was NOT invited back the next year.

Though I have personally formulated several dog food biscuits (all natural, GRAS, and from low processed ingredient sources, as well as nutrient ) I hit a major nerve of some participants in the above described event.

This story magnifies my belief that indeed there is little oversight in food safety in the pet, or human, food chain, until something bad emerges from bad results, that cannot be brushed under the carpet, by either producers, ingredient suppliers, or so-called out numbered regulators (because there is a body count).

And oh, if you are wondering, our 13 year old tea cup Pomeranian gets human food, correctly portioned, from our table, and is in EXCELLENT health for her age.

Prevention remains less costly than reactive treatment or cures.

Perhaps the real problem with the pet foof is the GMO rice and corn that is grown and readily abailable in China. Perhaps they are trying to hide this fact from us by blaming it on chemical contamination.

U.S. Rice Supply Contaminated

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that small amounts of an experimental genetically engineered rice, LLRICE 601, have appeared in long-grain rice shipments earmarked for Europe.

The European Union stated in response that it would require that all long-grain rice imported from the United States be certified as free of unauthorized genetically engineered grains.

This is the first time such rice has been found in the U.S. commercial rice crop. How the GM rice got mixed into the shipments is unknown. It is possible that some seeds or pollen escaped from the test plots five years ago, and have been growing since that time.

LLRICE 601 is a type of genetically modified rice developed by Bayer CropScience. It has a genetically modified protein that makes the rice plants resist glyphosate, the weed killer also known as Round-Up. LLRICE 601 has not been approved for sale in the United States.

The blight of genetically modified (GM) grass that may be growing on your lawn so spooked the USDA recently, the agency is conducting their first environmental assessment. Now a species of GM rice -- illegal for sale to humans -- has contaminated long-grain rice shipments earmarked for Europe.

The problem began in January when one Southern U.S. farming co-op detected the biotech contamination. However, they waited five months before notifying Bayer about the problem.

Then, Bayer waited two more months before contacting the USDA on July 31, about three weeks before the feds made a public announcement. Chalk up part of the delay to a test developed by Bayer and certified in late August by the USDA that identifies unapproved strains of GM rice mixed with commercial rice.

(This is a division of the German Bayer company that sold AIDS-infected drugs in Europe and Asia that were banned in the United States).

The European Union isn't so trusting, however, and for good reason: It imports more than 260,000 tons of long-grain rice from America annually, and its customers want no part of biotech foods.

Make no mistake -- GM plants will accidentally intermix with other plants. In fact, they have already done so. Unless a halt is put on the entire process, some day in the not-too-distant future you may be completely unable to avoid GM foods, even if that is your major goal in life. It will simply be impossible due to the widespread contamination.

One of the issues that is frequently overlooked with GM crops is intellectual property. Monsanto patents are able to patent all these crops because they manipulated the U.S. legal system. So now it is entirely possible to contaminate a crop with patented seeds and then sue innocent organic farmers for patent infringement unless they buy a license to grow their Frankenfoods.

Oh, did I neglect to say Monsanto added a neat twister to this? That twist is called the terminator gene. So once the organic farmer crops become contaminated they also become "sterile." The farmer then has no choice but to purchase the seeds from Monsanto as his contaminated crops will not produce any seeds he can plant the following year.

With that in mind, I urge you to read a detailed list of tips I posted last summer to protect your health and steer clear of GM products as much as is reasonably possible:

Reduce or eliminate processed foods. Roughly 75 percent of all the processed foods you see at your corner store contain some GM ingredients.
There are many other reasons why processed foods are not optimal for your health -- for instance they often contain trans fat, acrylamide and little nutritional value -- so avoiding them will not only help you to cut back on the amount of GM foods you are consuming, but will also boost your health.


Read produce and food labels. GM soybeans and corn make up the largest portion of genetically modified crops. When looking at a product label, if any ingredients such as corn flour and meal, dextrin, starch, soy sauce, margarine, and tofu (to name a few) are listed, there's a good chance it has come from GM corn or soy, unless it's listed as organic.

Buy organic produce. Buying organic is currently the best way to ensure that your food has not been genetically modified. By definition, food that is certified organic must be free from all GM organisms, produced without artificial pesticides and fertilizers and from an animal reared without the routine use of antibiotics, growth promoters or other drugs.

Look at produce stickers. Those little stickers on fruit and vegetables contain different PLU codes depending on whether the fruit was conventionally grown, organically grown or genetically modified. The PLU code for conventionally grown fruit consists of four numbers, organically grown fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number nine, and GM fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number eight.

# 105 Who Needs Irradiated Foods! - Wake Up World -

Food Irradiation Will Be Used To Mask Filthy Slaughtering and Food Processing Practices
Food irradiation dose limit would be removed, health and safety regulations discarded under new plan, substandard food could be "treated" with high-dose radiation in unlicensed and dirty facilities.

A proposed international food irradiation standard winding its way through legal channels in Europe could jeopardize the quality and safety of food sold to United States consumers.

Under an international plan endorsed March 16, virtually every assurance that irradiated food will be of good quality, be handled by trained workers, and be processed under safe and clean conditions in government-inspected facilities would disappear. The proposal also would remove the international dose limit for food irradiation.

The proposal was endorsed in The Hague, Netherlands, by the Codex Committee on Food Additives and Contaminants (CCFAC), which advises the Codex Alimentarius ("Food Code") Commission. Operating under the auspices of the United Nations and World Health Organization (WHO), the Codex sets global food safety standards for more than 160 nations, representing about 97 percent of the world's population. The United States is one of the 160 nations.

"This proposal confirms that irradiation will be used to mask filthy slaughtering and food processing practices," said Wenonah Hauter, director of the Critical Mass Energy and Environment Program. "These antiquated ideas set back food safety more than 100 years, to a time when people routinely died from eating contaminated food. It is an outrage to the highest order. People throughout the world have cause for great worry."

Under international trade rules, countries that are members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) can challenge the standards of other countries by claiming the standards are trade barriers. If the WTO agrees, countries whose standards are challenged must amend the standard or face trade sanctions.

U.S. standards governing irradiated food are much stricter than what Codex is proposing. That means that if the Codex measure is approved, other countries could challenge US standards through the WTO.

A successful challenge could pressure the US to weaken its standards.

The proposal would amend the Codex's 22-year-old food irradiation standard by stating that food companies "should" rather than "shall" comply with the standards. Many of the changes were proposed without any advance notice and approved at meetings that were closed to the public.
Under the looser standards, irradiated food would no longer have to be "of suitable quality," in "acceptable hygienic condition," or "handled ... according to good manufacturing practices."

Additionally, food irradiation facilities would no longer have to comply with "safety" and "good hygiene practices," or be staffed by "adequate, trained and competent personnel." Nor would they have to be licensed or inspected by government officials, or maintain certain records on radioactive activities.
Also, food irradiation would no longer have to be carried out "commensurate with ... technological and public health purposes" or conducted "in accordance with good radiation processing practice."

The changes could place numerous US food and nuclear safety regulations at risk.

Among them are Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules requiring all irradiation facilities using radioactive material to be licensed and regularly inspected; Department of Agriculture rules requiring beef, pork and poultry products to meet certain quality standards; and USDA and Food and Drug Administration rules requiring food to be processed under hygienic conditions.

CCFAC also endorsed removing the current irradiation Codex dose limit of 10 kiloGray, which is the equivalent of about 330 million chest X-rays. When food is exposed to such doses of ionizing radiation, the flavor, texture, odor, nutritional integrity and chemical composition of food can change significantly. Very few of the new chemicals that are formed in irradiated food have been studied for toxicity. Most US foods are dosed with between 1 and 7.5 kiloGray.

One chemical that is a byproduct of the irradiation process, called 2-DCB, was found in 1998 to cause cellular and genetic damage in human and rat cells.
The WHO is continuing to research the potential toxicity and mutagenicity of the chemical, which is a radiation byproduct of a certain fatty acid found in beef, chicken, pork, lamb, duck, eggs, mangoes, papayas, peanuts, seafood and many other foods.

The 2-DCB studies were conducted in Germany, one of several European Union countries that is skeptical of the purported benefits of irradiation. At the recent meeting in The Hague, the German delegation objected to the CCFAC proposal.

The proposal is about halfway through the approval process. It next will be debated by the full Codex Commission, which meets July 2-7 in Geneva.

Public Citizen has been vigorously opposing efforts to weaken international food irradiation standards by organizing nongovernmental organizations and writing letters to Codex delegates. In February, Public Citizen sent letters of concern to all US delegates to CCFAC, all international delegates to the full Codex Commission, and to CCFAC Chair S.P.J. Hagenstein.

Public Citizen also has challenged the WHO's assertion that irradiated food is safe to eat by sending letters to top officials within the organization.

FDA tyranny and the censorship of cherry health facts (opinion)In the past, I jokingly said that broccoli might someday be banned as soon as the public begins to learn about the potent anti-cancer chemicals found in the vegetable. That’s because, as I jested, the FDA wouldn’t want people treating their own cancer with the anti-cancer medicines found in cruciferous vegetables. But it seems that my joke wasn’t so funny after all, because the FDA is now threatening cherry growers with raids to confiscate their cherries, haul them into court, and put them out of business for doing one simple thing that the FDA cannot stand to allow: The distribution of scientific information describing the health benefits of cherries.
On October 17, 2005, the FDA sent warning letters to 29 companies that market cherries. In these letters, the FDA threatened these companies with legal action and told them they had to remove the scientific information on their websites that described the health benefits of the natural medicines found in cherries, such as the anthocyanins that reduce inflammation for arthritis sufferers. According to the warped FDA logic that now seems to be standard, when cherry growers post scientific information about the health benefits of their cherries, they magically transform their cherries into drugs and therefore, as drugs, they must have FDA approval in order to sell them in the United States.
The FDA says a cherry is a drugNow, any normal, sane person would look at a cherry and say, “It’s just a cherry.” It’s a natural fruit that people have been eating for as long as anyone can remember. But the FDA, in light of the fact that people are now discovering that cherries are actually good medicine, looks at a cherry and says (paraphrasing), “No, it’s a drug, and you have to have our permission to market it, and if you continue to talk about the health benefits of cherries, we will use our power to put you out of business.”
I’ve often talked about the tyranny of the FDA and its campaign to censor the scientific truth about the healing benefits of natural foods, including cherries and many other items. This event demonstrates perfectly well the sinister nature of the FDA, which clearly intends to restrict the spread of knowledge about cherries and thereby protect the profits of anti-inflammatory drugs that treat joint pain. If Americans knew the true power of cherries to reduce inflammation, you see, the sales of anti-inflammatory drugs might plummet, and the criminal drug pushers who run organized medicine today can't allow that to happen. Hence, censorship and oppression of scientific information are the tactics used to keep the American people ignorant and, therefore, controlled.
Because it's not just cherries that contain powerful medicine, you see. It's blueberries, garlic, cabbage, onions, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, aloe vera, almonds and a thousand other natural foods and medicinal herbs. If the public understood the true healing power of these foods -- and the powerful medicines they contain -- conventional medicine and all its drug-pushing participants would suddenly be irrelevant and bankrupt.
That's what the drug pushers absolutely cannot allow to happen, and that's why the American people must be kept ignorant at all costs, even if it means engaging in book burning, armed raids on alternative medicine clinics, and jackbooted censorship of simple truths that might empower people to take charge of their own health. It is the most insidious use of power by any federal agency because its aim is ignorance, not education. It seeks to isolate people from information that might save them in order to control them, and it is the same tactic used by every evil regime in world history, including Nazi Germany. It also makes the FDA the single greatest threat to the health and safety of the American people, far outweighing the threat of terrorism in terms of the number of people harmed or killed. So I’m just curious; are cherry growers who distribute scientific information now going to be arrested as cherry traffickers? Will people start smuggling cherries across borders so that their customers can benefit from the healing effects of these natural foods? Will the FDA raid cherry orchards with guns drawn like it did Dr. Jonathan Wright’s clinic in Seattle many years ago? Will cherry growers be arrested and tried on crimes of making health claims or illegally marketing unapproved drugs?
These things were once thought of as being ridiculous. The very idea that a natural food could be outlawed was once considered a joke. Now it is one step closer to reality as this tyrannical organization, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is censoring scientific information on the health benefits of cherries and using its power to threaten cherry growers into silence.
More nonsense from the FDAAmazingly, the FDA doesn’t claim to disagree with the scientific information about cherries. Instead, it says that cherries “have not been recognized as safe and effective when used as labeled.” And as the Life Extension Foundation explains, the FDA’s interpretation of the law means that cherry growers are “engaged in criminal conduct by relaying findings that have been published in peer reviewed scientific journals.”
So now publishing information makes you a criminal even if that information is scientifically sound and widely known to be absolutely true. If this isn't a blatant violation of the First Amendment, I don't know what is. Where's the Electronic Freedom Foundation on this issue? Isn't this a clear case where the tyranny of the FDA should be openly challenged by champions of Free Speech?
Cherries are now, according to the FDA, not recognized as safe and effective when used "as labeled." I’m just curious, what does the label of cherries say about using it? Does it say, “Eat me?” Because that's what we should all be saying to the FDA right now, as it is an agency immersed in such absolute nonsense that even fools can see the emperor has no clothes. To say a cherry is a drug and then threaten cherry growers with drug crimes is something ripped right out of the pages of 1984 and its Ministry of Truth. (See Wikipedia to learn more.)
In terms of genuine authority, the FDA is nothing short of an utter joke and an embarrassment to the American people. Unfortunately, it still has power, and it is exploiting that power to threaten cherry growers with criminal prosecution for doing what people have done for countless generations on this earth, which is to grow their own fruits and eat those fruits while enjoying their many benefits.
Do not tolerate unjust authorityGandhi once initiated the Salt March to Dandi (the "Salt Satyagraha") in defiance of the tyrannical salt taxation rules of the occupying British government, and there he and his followers intentionally violated the law by harvesting salt from the waters. It was a practice that had been carried out for centuries by the people there, and one that provides essential minerals for human health. Gandhi’s defiance may teach us something very important about modern times, and that is that when a law is so unjust as to stand in violation of fundamental human rights, it is not only the right, but the duty of individuals to stand in firm opposition to that law and to challenge whatever authority unjustly imposes that law upon the people.
The FDA operates today much like the occupying British in 20th century India, oppressing the people, outlawing natural traditions like salt harvesting in order to control a monopoly market, silencing dissent, and threatening any organization or individual that challenges its power. The FDA, as it exists today, is an organization of tyranny and injustice that simply has no place in a free society.
That’s why I believe it is time for growers of cherries, fruits, vegetables and other healing foods to take a stand against the FDA. Stand firm against oppression and censorship, and stand up for your right to tell the truth about the healing benefits of your natural products. The FDA’s reclassification of cherry growers as criminals is a violation of every system of law and ethics that we’ve known on this planet. It is a violation of natural law, it is a violation of God’s law, and it is a violation of basic human rights, which include the right to grow and eat food and share that food with your neighbors along with information about what those foods can do to nourish them.
The FDA would like to imagine that it is the ultimate authority over all things health related and that only it can approve what words we might use to describe the fruits and vegetables we share with our neighbors. And as such, the FDA is an entity of ignorance and evil that actually seeks to de-educate the American people, and the day of outing the criminals who currently operate the FDA is long overdue. This is an agency whose decision makers need to be immediately arrested and tried for their crimes against humanity. It is an agency that demands wholesale reform from top to bottom and that must eliminate its obvious conflicts of interest and its desire to protect the pharmaceutical industry. It must be reformed with a new mission that it should have been following all along: To protect the health of the people it is supposed to serve.
End the tyranny of the FDAIf you're an American voter, one of the best ways to protect your health freedom, which is clearly under assault by the Food and Drug Administration as well as other disease-promoting interest groups, is to support the Health Freedom Protection Act (HR4282). It is a bill that will allow organizations like cherry growers to tell the truth about their products, as long as that truth is based on sound science. It would allow cherry growers, for example, to reference the published scientific studies that report on the healing benefits of the phytochemicals found in cherries.
It is a shame that in this country we even need such a bill, but we do need it, because the level of censorship, oppression, and tyranny now practiced by the FDA has reached its apex, and we must fight back with legislation that ends the tyranny of the Food and Drug Administration and reinforces our right to access information that can help us live happier, healthier and longer lives. Support the Health Freedom Protection Act (HR4282) by writing your representatives in Congress and voicing your opinion. Finally, refuse to live as a slave of conventional medicine and the FDA for another day. Demand health freedom and settle for nothing less than the ending of this age of medical tyranny that seeks to turn us all -- you, your parents, your children and preschoolers -- into ignorant, drug-induced consumers who will never know true freedom, nor true health. Perhaps the greatest legacy that we can pass on to our children is the ending of this medical McCarthyism and the unfolding of a new golden age of health freedom. The Weston A. Price Foundation is undertaking a new initiative to investigate instances and arrange possible legal assistance for individuals who believe that they or their child may have suffered serious physical or medical consequences as a result of ingesting one or more products containing soy.
A growing body of credible medical and dietary research suggests that soy products may cause adverse medical and developmental conditions in susceptible persons, especially children -- who in some instances may be affected by soy products consumed either by themselves (for instance, in baby formula) or by their mothers prior to giving birth.

Upon receipt of your e-mail, you will be forwarded via e-mail with attachments, a questionnaire and release form. You are urged to complete the questionnaire, fully and honestly, to the best of your ability. Also, please sign and return the medical authorization(s) along with the questionnaire, in the event possible relevant medical records are needed in those cases that warrant further investigation. Mailing address and fax number will be provided to you with the questionnaire.

Finally, now there may be legal repercussions that could be taken against the dangerous effects of the once thought "healthy" food, soy.
I have posted several articles in the past detailing the various dangers of soy products. Unfortunately, one of the biggest problems with the widespread acceptance of soy is the billions of advertising dollars of influence in the edible oil industry, that is involved with heavily promoting soy’s use in the natural medical circles, so its use can be then promoted in the general medical public.
They have even been able to fool otherwise knowledgeable natural medicine doctors.
These actions by Weston A. Price Foundation are huge in not only addressing the growing epidemic of people suffering from reactions from taking soy products, but also allowing them to explore possible legal assistance.
I have a lot of faith in the Weston A. Price foundation and in their lobbying efforts to warn other consumers against the dangers of modern soy food and their goal to get soy formula taken off the shelves in the marketplace.
If soy products have adversely affected you or if you know of anybody who has consumed a lot of soy and has experienced negative side effects, I would strongly encourage that you read this article and then take the appropriate steps to begin a preliminary investigation of your circumstances and potential claim.

# 102 FrankenRice: Its on the way - Here it Comes

Thought I was kidding in my prior posts! Read my # 90, # 89,# 68, and the ones about soy beans.This insanity needs to stop immediately. Did send a protest on this, but I understand that March 30,2007, is the cut-off date to protest.

Dear Reader,
Here's a dish that's sure to appeal to consumers: Human Genes 'n' Rice!
Come on now - admit it - how many times have you sat down to a bowl of steaming rice and thought, "This would sure go great with some human genes!"
How many? Zero times? I'm with you all the way. In fact, I expect that just about nobody could warm up to the idea of eating a genetically modified (GM) plant that contains human genes.
Here's the good news: These plants aren't actually grown for human consumption.
Here's the bad news: These plants exist, and when the wind blows their seeds, there's no telling where they might go.

Earlier this month, the USDA gave Ventria Bioscience (a California biotech company) preliminary approval to plant more than 3,000 acres of rice engineered with human genes that produce proteins found in breast milk. But this rice won't be sold to consumers - the proteins will be extracted and used for a medication that treats children with diarrhea. And that's the whole point: Growing the proteins is more efficient and less costly than manufacturing synthetic versions.
In a recent NutraIngredients-USA article titled "GM: A Healthy Debate," Jess Halliday noted that using genetically modified crops to improve human health might be the "golden ticket" that will finally convince a wary public that tinkering with genes in our food supply is just fine after all. So far, the general public isn't convinced this tinkering is safe. Ms. Halliday describes our cautious attitude like this: "turning their noses up like petulant toddlers."
That's got to be a new low in condescension. Especially given the fact that just a few days later another NutraIngredients-USA article noted that a variety of GM corn had produced liver and kidney toxicity in rats.
If I turn up my nose at potential kidney and liver toxicity, am I behaving like a petulant toddler? I suppose I am if there's a GM crop that will treat kidney and liver failure.

If the final USDA approval goes through, Ventria will plant more 450 acres of their Human Genes 'n' Rice this spring. That planting will be done in Kansas, but definitely not Missouri. Why not Missouri?
Interesting story.
Ventria originally proposed to plant its crop in the Show Me State, but that didn't sit well with beer maker Anheuser-Busch, which happens to be the largest rice buyer in the U.S. Anheuser-Busch executives threatened to purchase all their rice outside Missouri if Ventria went forward with the planting, so Ventria took its strange rice to Kansas.
Now why would Anheuser-Busch execs draw a line in the Missouri dirt? Because they were concerned about human-gene rice contaminating the crops that provide rice for their beer. But a line in the dirt (such as the long line that separates Kansas and Missouri) won't stop a rice crop from wandering.
Long story short: You can't contain nature, and you can't keep a plant engineered with human genes neatly contained in a single field.

As I mentioned above, Ventria's green light for planting their Human Genes 'n' Rice is preliminary. If enough people voice their concerns about this Frankenfood, the USDA may be persuaded to step back and tread more carefully before they allow human genes to be grown in a crop that's typically grown for food.
But here's the catch: The public comment period for this issue ends tomorrow. So if you'd like to voice your opposition to this human gene "experiment," the time to speak up is now.

Deborah Arneson had a rude awakening when she started counseling people on how to lose weight based on everything she had been taught about the food pyramid and realizedthey were gaining weight instead. The licensed clinical nutritionistchronicles her experience in

Arneson discovered the major flaw in her early advice when she toured the headquarters of the American Dietetic Association, which was asked by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to turn the four food groups into a well-balanced diet. The result was the 1992 food pyramid and then the 2005 MyPyramid."The ADA has a wall that is about 30 feet long and about 6 feet high that lists all the food vendors that support the association," Arneson recalled. "There can't be much truth in information when all these people are feeding the coffers of the ADA."She concluded that "the pyramid is not a safe place to find information for a diet. lf you eat the food-pyramid way, you will eventually look like a pyramid and be small on the top and large on the bottom with thunder thighs."So what's a self-respecting nutritionist to do? Arneson found the answer on a trip to a village in India. "I saw women in their 60s, 70s and80s who looked 20 to 30 years younger. Their cheeks were full, their eyes were shining bright, their hair was hardly gray and they were very limber," she recalled. She discovered they were simmering fish, lamb and chicken in sesame and coconut oil and eating avocados off the trees."They were eating a lot of fat, and the women were all lean, so when I got back to Chicago, instead of recommending 30 to 35 percent healthy fat a day, I recommended 50 percent, and the fat on my patients started melting away."Arneson's book includes the three pyramids for proteins, fats and carbohydrates divided into the good, the bad and the ugly that she developed. The "good" are reflected in the foods Arneson may eat on a typical day: a protein drink that includes a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of Healthy Balance oil for breakfast; hummus and rice crackers for a mid-morning snack; lemon Parmesan organic chicken and teriyaki broccoli for lunch; a sliver of goat cheese and grapes in midafternoon; homemade chicken sausage with peas and green beans for dinner; half an avocado before bedtime; and plenty of water, which is not in the pyramid. But Arneson admits that when the waterpipes broke at her office, her pipes froze at home and she had a medical emergency in her family she went to McDonald's and had a small chocolate milkshake and fries. In self-defense she said, "There are not four food groups, there are two food groups. There are physical health foods to stay lean, but some-times you need mental-health foods to make you feel good."

CDC Finally Admits Autism is a Greater Danger to Your Children

A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report, considered the most complete assessment of autism to date, has found that the number of children who have an autism disorder is significantly higher than had been previously thought, and could be as high as one out of every 150 children.
Earlier estimates judged the incidence of autism disorders to be 1 in 166 children. But those estimates were based on smaller studies and used different study methods.
These findings may add further fuel to the growing debate over thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative that was used in infant vaccines up until six years ago, and is still used in flu shots.
For the new report, researchers used data from a multiyear, multistate study of 8-year-olds who were identified as having an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD includes autism, PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified) and Asperger's disorder.
These disorders are characterized by problems with language and communication, often accompanied by repetitive or unusual behaviors, and generally begin before age 3, although they may not be diagnosed until later.

After this sobering report by the CDC, conventional medicine can't turn its collective backs on autism any more, as it has for a long, long time. The incidence of autism is even higher in some states than the national average; in New Jersey, more than one out of every 100 children suffers from an autism disorder.
Despite the evidence, however, CDC Director Julie Gerberding remains skeptical autism rates are really rising, citing "better studies" as a possible reason for the uptick -- although the results of each successive study are grimmer than the previous ones.
The most important number parents need to remember when it comes to vaccinating your children is 27.
Children were 27 times more likely to develop autism when given three vaccines containing thimerosal, the mercury-based vaccine preservative, and far less so when it was removed from them, according to studies posted here three years ago.

Liquid Candy Becoming the Preferred Breakfast Drink

Soft drinks are being consumed outside the home as part of breakfast at a rapidly increasing rate, the amount nearly doubling over the past 15 years. Over the same period, outside-the-home coffee consumption with breakfast has fallen nearly 25 percent.
A soft drink is currently ordered with a breakfast meal more than 15 percent of the time, compared to 7.9 percent of the time in 1990. Just under two-thirds of that 15 percent have a regular soda, and the rest order diet.
Between 1990 and the present, breakfast coffee orders have dropped from 48.7 percent to 38 percent.
Soda for breakfast has also become more common for those who eat the meal at home, rising from 0.5 percent in 1985 to 2.4 percent in 2006.

More Revelations About The Latest Spicy Cancer Fighter

Scientists have discovered the secret behind the ability of spicy foods to kill cancer cells. Capsaicin, which is found in jalapeno peppers, attacks the mitochondria of cancerous cells.
Vanilloids, a family of molecules that includes capsaicin, bind to mitochondrial proteins in cancer cells to trigger apoptosis (programmed cell death), without causing harm to healthy cells. The biochemistry of cancer cell mitochondria is significantly different from that of normal cells.
To determine this, capsaicin was tested on cultures of human lung and pancreatic cancer cells.

Dogs trained in cancer-sniffing. Smell has often been a warning sign of illness: Hippocrates-the father of modern medicine-described the fruity odor of diabetes in the breath.Now scientists are using dogs' enhanced sense of smell test for various types of cancer. Dogs are being tested for their ability to detect melanoma on the skin, breast cancer in breath, and prostate cancer in urine. In one trial, British scientists trained dogs to sniff for bladder cancer in 54 samples of human urine. They were about 41% accurate: not a very high accuracy rate, but high enough to have experts interested. One of the main reasons for the interest is to use dogs as cancer detectors in poor countries, where CT scans and even Pap smears are unavailable.

DNA database open to the public. Amateur genealogists can use it to trace their ancestry for free. A major DNA database is opening its doors to amateur genealogists. People who want to use DNA to trace their maternal ancestors will be able to turn to the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation of Salt Lake City, with its database of more than 5000 samples of mitochondrial DNA. Unlike Y-chromosome DNA, which is inherited by sons from their fathers, mitochondrial DNA is passed from mothers to both male and female children. So mitochondrial DNA is especially valuable to women, who have no other direct method to search their family histories through their genes.
The foundation is the creation of Utah philanthropist James Levoy Sorenson.
One day in the future, I'd like to run a check on my ancestors. I would like to know more of the family, from my mother's side. My father's side is pretty well documented, but I may even check his out also.
