# 98 Liquid Candy Breakfast Fad

Liquid Candy Becoming the Preferred Breakfast Drink

Soft drinks are being consumed outside the home as part of breakfast at a rapidly increasing rate, the amount nearly doubling over the past 15 years. Over the same period, outside-the-home coffee consumption with breakfast has fallen nearly 25 percent.
A soft drink is currently ordered with a breakfast meal more than 15 percent of the time, compared to 7.9 percent of the time in 1990. Just under two-thirds of that 15 percent have a regular soda, and the rest order diet.
Between 1990 and the present, breakfast coffee orders have dropped from 48.7 percent to 38 percent.
Soda for breakfast has also become more common for those who eat the meal at home, rising from 0.5 percent in 1985 to 2.4 percent in 2006. January 15, 2007

Dr. Mercola's Comment:
Here's yet another reason soft drinks have become the leading source of calories for Americans and a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. The trends and the numbers are so striking, some business experts wonder why soft drinks giants like Coca-Cola even bother trying to compete with coffeehouse chains like Starbucks by adding a coffee-flavored line of beverages.
And if you think diet sodas are the answer, you should know that the artificial sugary chemicals they contain aren't doing your health any favors, either.
Just consider all the nasty things soft drinks do to harm your health in addition to obesity:
Damage your liver
Create mental health problems
Expose your body to toxic levels of benzene
Increase the risk of nearly every chronic disease known to man by raising your insulin levels
Increase your rate of aging
Fortunately, one of the best ways to optimize your health -- making the switch to clean fresh water -- is also one of the easiest. If you have trouble breaking this health-harming habit, consider learning Turbo Tapping, a variation of the effective Emotional Freedom Technique.
Folks, there just simply isn't any excuse for drinking soda, ever. If you are drinking soda this is one of the easiest steps you can IMMEDIATELY take toward moving yourself in the direction of health and wellness. This one simple measure will really accelerate your path toward healing.
After all if you are going to have sugar there are simply so many better ways to consume it than drinking it.
And if you are drinking diet soda you probably haven't watched my videos on them, or are among the millions who sincerely desire to break their diet soda addiction, but have been unsuccessful after repeated attempts. It is vital that you watch these videos and consider the free resource Turbo Tapping.
On Vital Votes, reader Marianne from Belleville, Michigan adds:
"I can believe it. I was addicted to diet pepsi for years. Even while consuming a whole foods diet otherwise, it took me a long time to give it up. I was convinced without it I would 'have' to eat sugar. I actually do not crave sugar as much now.
"I think the aspartame itself is very addictive. At least it was for me. The withdrawal is just as hard as coming off sugar. I remember, I just gave it up just a month ago! I think this is the fifth or sixth time I have sworn off aspartame, but it is the most successful I have ever been.
"I just want to encourage those who think they can't give it up, you really can. Like any other addiction (and I've had my share) you have to keep quitting."
